I had an unpleasant experience with the Waxenstein hotel in Grainau. Very bad customer service, front desk people very unfriendly and not very proficient in english which is surprising for a hotel claiming to be “5 stars.” If possible 0 stars.

Fantastic panoramas and scenery. Hotel rated 5 stars but it is not, you can get cleaner and bigger rooms for similar or less money. Unfortunately this can not make up for our overall experience which is one star (because zero star not available). We stayed one night and had to cancel the rest of our stay for a family emergency. We understand the cancellation policies and the profit oriented stance of the owners, however not caring for your clients satisfaction and well being is disappointing and not acceptable. The front desk clerk appeared overwhelmed. I will never return there and strongly advise the same.

We stayed 2 nights at the Romantic. We are very happy we stayed, and it is a gorgeous little property hidden in Grainau. It feels authentic and the view from the main lobby deck is stunning as you can see the highest mountain in Germany. Quite literally, we said it was the best breakfast we had ever had. The food was so fresh and delicious, and the view took it over the top. We had a basic room for 2 with a balcony. It is true, as I've seen in other reviews, that the rooms are very small. If you are spending most of your time exploring the area, this won't matter much, because the bed and all inside is well done and comfy. There is no aircon, so in the summer months this can be a snag! We had to keep the door open which meant some light came in so we didn't have the blackout effect we would have had if it was closed. It did get kind of stuffy. I'm sure in the winter and the heater is going its nice, but for summer that was not the best! Also another thing to point out is that the walls are very thin. Our next door neighbors were quite loud and we could hear them the entire time till they decided to go to bed haha. I give this an excellent rating because I believe in comparison with other hotels I saw in the area that Romantik is the best and you'll have these problems at all other properties! I would stay here again - despite everything!!

The worst Hotel ever. Receptionist pp and probably Russian. Barely spoke German. Bar ] both days. No TV for 2 days. Horrible experience with the whole staff. Receptionist needs to understand that she is no longer in Russia and service does mean serve.

- Located next to the main street (loud cars) - Stressful and unwelcoming check-in experience; felt like staff "didn't have time" for guests. - Overall lack of friendliness and attention from staff, not what's expected from a 5-star hotel. - Housekeeping inconsistencies: room not cleaned properly, missing bathrobe, cup left unwashed, no hot water on the first day. - Unpleasant check-out; no inquiry about the quality of our stay. - Even after paying a dog fee, no amenities provided for the pet, e.g., food bowl or blanket. - Have stayed in many upscale hotels and rarely felt this unwelcome.

Location is excellent with beautiful views of the mountains. Hotel is however due for renovation with some of the rooms very small for a 5 star hotel. The personnel was not overly friendly and sometimes unprofessional . No choices on the 1/2 pension menu like we have been experienced to .To top it off, I was overcharged for the 1/2 pension since they had increased the price after I received my confirmation.. Since I noticed this after I left, I Emailed them about it and they agreed to credit my AMEX credit card. However after almost 2 months I am still waiting for the credit. Follow up Emails to remind them are not answered. Not a 5 star service!!!

My husband and I stayed four nights in this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. After a long day of hiking and exploring the beautiful area, we came back and relaxed in the sauna, pool, and jacuzzi. We enjoyed delicious gourmet dinners at the hotel restaurant. The breakfast buffet was well stocked, and the servers are friendly and efficient. The rooms are quaint, a bit crowded with furniture, but the view from our balcony was superb.

A wonderful and pleasant SURPRISE found on our way through the Bavarian Alps. Beautiful accommodations, breathtaking views and fabulous meals. 5 Star experience without the 5 Star price tag. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed. We will be back!

Friendly Front Desk, room was available when we arrived a little early. They offered us a free bus pass which we used to go over to the Zugspitze (very Convenient), a 5-10 min walk to bus stop. The view was phenominal. We had a balcony looking out to the Mountain, There is a spa at the hotel . Hot tub was not hot but the bubbles still felt good after a day of walking and again you can relax with the view. Room: Is small and a little cramped with very hard uncomfortable bed. Slippers, robes and towels provided. Breakfast was typical made to offer eggs with a wide variety of meats, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, breads, and fruit.
