Woodbury Tented Camp – Amakhala Game Reserve

We had a wonderful family vacation. Great place to celebrate the New Year. Very comfortable accommodation, wonderful service and friendly staff. We felt very welcome and nothing was a problem. Loved that all the tents have a gorgeous view to wake up to with wildlife spotting from the deck!! Had great game drives and our guide Greg was very knowledgeable and managed to show us everything we wanted to see except the elusive leopard!!! The scenery at Amakhala is nothing less than spectacular. Extra bonus that there’s no malaria there. We will definitely recommend to friends and return in the future.

Stayed here recently for our honeymoon and were blown away by just how nice it was. The weather was not the best, so we had limited time by the pool areas but they looked fantastic for those fortunate enough to have the sun. The communal area felt cosy and we spent most evenings there by the fire/bar with other guests. The meals and snacks offered between game drives were excellent. There was a choice and I never felt left out by my dietary requirements. We were very happy with the food provided and the service. There was also a large choice of beverages although limited selection of spirits. The staff were friendly and there was always someone around to attend to you. The star of the show however, was Nico. He was our game guide and driver and managed to make our stay even more enjoyable. His knowledge and professionalism were fantastic. Even with the bad weather we still managed to have some excellent sightings of animals and an overall great experience.

What a fantastic experience from the moment we arrived to welcome drinks, until our final breakfast after our final early morning safari. The accommodation was incredibly comfortable and private, we had Tent 10 with the Waiter's tent alongside where my adult son slept. We stayed for two nights and did all four safaris, our ranger, Tim, was incredibly knowledgeable and we were so grateful to have seen so much wildlife over the four safaris. The weather wasn't brilliant for a lot of our stay but even an early morning safari in the rain was an experience worth having. The food was really tasty, as a vegetarian it was great that they were so creative with my meals and the rest of my family really enjoyed their meals too. All the drinks were complimentary, as much tea, coffee, soft drinks or alcohol as you wanted. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful and helped make the stay so memorable. Little touches like the Amarula and hot chocolate after the evening safari were perfect. There were two pools available but the weather wasn't really on our side so we didn't really get to use them. I would highly recommend the Woodbury Tented Camp for your safari experience, it was awesome!

A great way to see African animals in a magnificent setting. Our guide was excellent, very patient, knowledgeable and fun. We learned a lot on six expertly conducted safari drives over 3 days. Accommodation very good and food absolutely delicious, beautifully served.

This was our first South African safari experience. We were certainly not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were met with friendly attentive staff who could not do more to make our stay a pleasure. The tents were spacious with a huge comfortable bed, hot showers and all the creature comforts of a great hotel room. The pool and grounds were impeccably maintained and really added to the experience! The ranger guides were fabulous- shout out to Marli for her sheer grit and determination to get us the most wonderful experience of seeing wild animals so close up! She really smashed it out the park! Exceptional is the word here! The hot chocolate and amarula around the fire at the end of the evening drive was just perfect! Time to unwind and share the days experiences. Casual dining at one table really made the trip, getting to know new people and hear their experiences really added to the charm of the camp! We didn’t want 5* stuffy vibe and the tented camp really delivered. The food and drink was abundant (albeit I was sceptical on booking) and there was pretty much all your heart desires on hand for your stay! I would visit again in a heartbeat and the staff really made this place something kind of wonderful- so take a bow! You really are first class!

We had an incredible time at Woodbury Tented Camp and stayed for a total of 4 nights. The tents are comfortable and have everything you need and hearing the sounds of the animals whilst lying there at night is an experience in itself! The tents are very private, we stayed in tent 1 and the views across the reserve were amazing. We were a bit apprehensive about the communal dining but having the interaction between guests is actually one of the things that made our trip. The food was 10 out of 10 every day breakfast, lunch and dinner. They do not let you go hungry! And finally, the reason you will be staying here is for the safari experience. You are taken on two game drives a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. We saw 4 of the big 5 (leopards are elusive in the area!) and you could really tell that the reserve was well run and conservation and respect for the animals was top priority. We have to make a special mention to our ranger Rob - his knowledge and passion truly shone and we learnt so much from him. Every staff member we encountered at Woodbury were friendly and helpful. Our stay was faultless and this is truly a place we hope to return to one day soon!
