My wife and I wanted to pop out for a quick drink and headed to Merchants Manor which was nearest to us. We ordered a small red wine (125ml) half a larger shandy and some nuts. I know, last of the big spenders !! At least I thought so. The two drinks and nuts came to £19. I know I should have asked beforehand so probably my fault. But really it’s not as if we were in a top London hotel. The small (125ml) glass of red wine was £10. No wonder the bar was completely empty. We won’t be going back in a hurry. We did like the nuts so not all bad.

We visit Falmouth frequently and have stayed in most places. We did read some of the negative reviews before booking but having been here before weren’t particularly concerned. The hotel entrance is decorated beautifully and yes there is a self check in which I think is fine and a sensible economy . We booked a basic room which was absolutely what we expected . A very distant sea view , but clean and comfortable, lovely products in the bathroom . There was a very attentive staff member visible who gave us a lovely gift pack of Cornish water and fudge which we were glad of on the way home! Breakfast was good, nice to have a sourdough bread option ! All round this a good choice Falmouth stay ( for us only one night )

Great location for gardens and coast around Cornwall. Our first room was spacious, comfortable and spotless, although with a very limited view. The second room was just as nice but with the benefit of a balcony and sea view. The sitting room is very elegant and with the benefit of a roaring fire when we visited The breakfast is worth a visit on its own, we hade eggs royale and the shepherd's breakfast every day. The manager was welcoming and very helpful. We look forward to visiting again.

Stayed last April and had an amazing time for my partners birthday. The rooms were perfect and clean. The lounge and bar was really relaxing with great service from all the staff. The location was perfect to get to beach or the town and after a long day out nothing was better than to come back to pool and steam room to unwind. Would definitely come back and would recommend to anyone going to Cornwall

DO NOT STAY HERE. FILTHY, FILTHY, DISGUSTING ROOM, PLUS LACK OF STAFF AND STANDARDS. Booked to stay for 3 nights left after 2, even after a change of room. Room was the most disgusting and filthy I have ever stayed in and I include all of the rooms I stayed in during my backpacking years in Asia and S America. Scores of different hair and mess in the bathroom and on bedroom furniture, also within the bed itself. Crap on the toilet, the bath was lined with hair, the shower head itself was matted with hair? The bed also had torn, dirty and bloodied sheet and mattress topper!!! The room had not been properly cleaned for months! Informed staff, part time students only in attendance, who were lovely and apologetic but owner kept away and at a distance despite being in the hotel. Lack of staff meant pool attendant had to try to clean my room, he did his best. I didn't sleep at all and moved out the next day despite having paid for one more day. Completely shameful, Falmouth is lovely and deserves better, so much better. On leaving my taxi driver told me stories of many other very unhappy guests. Spent several days trying to get refund, got part refund, complete with insincere excuses.

Lovely room with a nice balcony and a good view clean good shower easy to use bed very comfortable lovely breakfast with a good choice and the staff very helpful pool was very nice nice walk into town and close to the beach and bus stop and railway station

Booked this for a mid week break so we could explore Falmouth. The hotel was clean, tidy and the rooms were a good size, well kept and comfortable. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the pool and steam room were an added bonus. The one negative would be the limited menu available should you want to eat there. The food they do serve was good but there was very little choice however with the bars and restaurants a short walk away it isn't really an issue. Overall, for the money paid it was really good value and I'd happily return again in future.

Recently stayed here, my work placed a number of us in the hotel. It is large and spacious, a good size pool and steam room. The gym looked well equipped (but I never used it). The room itself was large enough and comfortable with a good shower and lovely shower gel and shampoo. It seemed to be a double bed, but was two beds pushed together, this didn’t bother me as I was alone, but as a couple, it would, but it was comfortable. There was also noise from neighbouring rooms and upstairs. The room I stayed in was on the ground floor opposite the pool, and you had members of the public using the gym and pool. It did get annoying people walking past chatting away first thing in the morning and evening, the loud music from the gym was also very annoying, a few times I went in and turned it down as there was no one in there. The breakfast had a good selection and breakfast staff were all lovely and friendly. But the cooked portions were very small to be honest. Nevertheless very nice. The menu for guests staying there was also very limited. I think the hotel would benefit to having signs up along the corridor leading to the gym and pool, asking users to respect the fact people may be sleeping. One thing I really did not like, one of the managers offered a crowd of us each a free pint if we left a 5star review.

The hotel is 13 minute walk from the town centre. It has a lovely swimming pool and gym which is free to use as part of your room. The room was spacious and clean. The TV signal was not great but you can use iplayer etc. The restaurant offers a very seasonal, limited menu. The hotel offers a free car park. The breakfast was delicious - offering a continental alongside a cooked breakfast (£14pp, if not included in your room price). The room was very warm, perhaps too warm (unable to adjust the heating). A £25 charge was taken when checking-in, I'm assuming this will be refunded.
