The Pig at Combe - Devon

Bustling country house hotel in a rural setting with attentive staff and great locally sourced food. The dining room was busy and not too noisy, despite being full. The food was generous and couldn’t be faulted for quality. Dinner served without delay despite peak time, and the only note was that there was a slightly limited selection from the seasonal menu. It may not be enough for a three night stay - but compensated by a good wine list. Sarah who served us, went the extra mile with a smile - thank you! The bedroom was large, clean, comfortable and had all mod cons. The rainfall shower was 10/10. Only quibble was the teaspoons provided were too wide to fit into the mustard pots🤦‍♂️. We survived. We will definitely be back.

The setting is truly stunning. I would return simply for that. Sadly the food did not live up to expectation. I can’t put my finger on what was wrong. Not special enough? Whilst the quirk of unmatched plates etc I can live with, several had chips or cracks. That was disappointing. Prices I felt were fair.

We stayed for a two night midweek stay break last week. Having been to The Pig several times before we were anticipating a good break. The setting and hotel are exceptional in quality and style, but unfortunately that’s where the good points stop. The heating in our room was not working, and we were provided with electric heaters for the first night and the heating was fixed the following day. We subsequently went to the bar for an early evening drink and had to wait an inordinate amount of time to get any service. My wife’s main course of skate wings at dinner was inedible and had to be returned. The menu is very expensive and the quality of the food did not reflect the exorbitant prices. The meal and service was very much improved the second evening, however was that due to a celebrity chef being in the dining room? Over the years we have enjoyed our stays at the Pig, but now feel that they are resting on their laurels.

Fantastic one night stay - we stayed in a room in the stable yard, converted stables/ stalls, super comfy bed. Delicious food in the restaurant in the evening, and lovely fresh breakfast options - great range of unusual seasonal fresh juices. Just all round super chilled vibes- definitely recommend. Great service from everyone from checking in, dinner to checking out the next day (which is unfortunately harder to find nowadays)

Stayed for 2 nights in the Horse Box room in the old stables area. Was very quirky and a lovely big space with a separate sitting area. All staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We ate in the restaurant on one evening which was good and breakfast both mornings was excellent. Our first time with the Pig brand and we definitely will try some of the others based on this experience.

Sadly I just don’t really get the menu, really not inspiring at all and ridiculously over priced! £40 for one steak , a bag of lettuce and some chips?!! Didn’t have a starter as didn’t like the sound of any of it, puddings were not to my taste either. Lovely staff but sadly that was the only highlight.
