Our guide, Appolline, provided an outstanding tour of the vineyard and limestone quarries. Her knowledge and passion were evident as she explained the intricate details of viticulture and the unique limestone. The guide's engaging storytelling made the history and geology of the quarries come alive. Friendly and interactive, she made the experience both informative and enjoyable. Highly recommend! While the wine-lover in our family looked forward to this visit, it turned out the whole family loved it. The tour of the cellar was like no other. An amazing setting for tales about culture, history and even environmental stewardship; oh and lots of wine. Pauline, our guide, was knowledgeable and so friendly and tailored our tour to our family of four - with two boys 11 and 13 years old. I highly recommend a tour and tasting for lovers of wine and those interested in learning about the wonderful stories to be found at this Chateau and in the Bordeaux region more generally.

The wonderful owner at La Closerie de Fronsac highly recommended the tour at this beautiful vineyard. They offer many tours in various languages, so we opted for the English tour. A wonderful experience! The chateau and it’s grounds which contains 100 hectors (roughly 225 acres) are magnificent. Sarah was our tour guide & she was so knowledgeable, sweet & very interesting. The tour took place in the caves underneath the chateau. Hundreds of years old & go on for miles. Sarah had some interesting stories to tell us & all enjoyed her amazing personality & warmth. The tour was 1-1/2 hours long with wine tasting afterwards out in the courtyard. The chateau is known for its Merlot, but they had other tastings. Even a sumptuous Rose’. Afterwards we toured the gardens. Just wonderful! The chateau also has four suites that can be rented at a expense, but what a luxury.

My wife wanted to stay in a stereotypical French Chateau in our travels around France and this one near Libourne, is an absolute stunner and did not disappoint ! (and cannot be classed as stereotypical !!) The photos online do not even come close, to doing this property justice as it is beautiful in every way and the location and views are superb ! The room we had was huge, extremely high roofed and had all the amenities of a high class hotel, along with half a bottle of complimentary wine from the Chateau itself. The wine tour is well worth the experience and also a chance to visit the 8 hectares or so of caverns they have and get out of the heat we were experiencing in France at the time as it was 37degrees outside and a cool 13degrees in the caverns. The Chateau does not offer any evening meals but provides a comprehensive list of local restaurants, so we booked Chez Carles à St Germain La Rivière (5min), 05 57 84 44 50 which was a lovely meal and literally 5 minutes away (by car, that is !) The breakfast on the upper terrace overlooking the vinyards will long be remembered and once again, I am stating in a review, that this is well worth the visit and money.

The chateau has stunning views but it is not a place that you would like to spend more than one night. It is isolated, so if you are looking for a place to eat or have a drink, wine, coke, water or coffee, you will need to get in the car and take a good 20 minute ride in the dark to the nearest town. I wished they would have offered something! The rooms are what they are, my only comment here is that there are dead bugs - bees, flies, wasps, spiders everywhere. There is another bug "beetle" like that loves to come in and share the space with you. House cleaning is minimal. This is a Bed and Breakfast, so we had imagine a true bed and breakfast - breakfast. It fell quite short on that end. We are in FRANCE so let fresh croissants overflow the table along with maybe a little quiche on the sidelines or even eggs with a beautiful presentation, NOOO this is not that place. The 2 ladies were pleasant period. My recommendation is stop by the chateau take the tour and leave! It is quite out of the way if you want to do any wine tasting of any kind.

Vu la multitudes de châteaux à visiter dans la région de Bordeaux, nous sommes extrêmement contents d'avoir choisi le Chateau La Rivière. Nous voulions voir un joli château et faire une bonne dégustation, pas très compliqué, mais alors là, de la très sympathique Pauline qui vous accueille merveilleusement, à la dégustation et en passant par la très belle bâtisse, c'est la visite des caves qui nous a émerveillé. Un lieu immense rempli d'histoire, et... de bouteilles de vin. Impressionnantes certainement à conseiller.

Hicimos la visita a la bodega, el entorno es impresionante, al igual que el chateau. La bodega son 25 km soterrados, de los que se usan 9, y es maravilloso en lo que lo convirtieron hace cientos de años. Nos sorprendió que con la proximidad de la zona a España no hocieran tours en español, aunque los guías si hablaran. Como parte de la visita, solo ves la cava, no el viñedo, que es una pena, porque el entorno es fantástico para disfrutar. Aun así, la localización es brutal. Lo que si nos sorprendió es que la cata fue de vinos “muy normales”, que nos dejaron i diferentes. Quisimos probar otro vino de más calidaf, pagando, por supuesto, pero no nos dejaron, lo que hace que nos decidieramos a no comprar ninguna caja. Tampoco tienes la opcion de picotear nada. Creo que le podrían sacar más partido!

Super découverte de ce magnifique château,nous avons passé un super moment avec notre guide qui nous a raconté l'histoire du château et visite des caves souterraine magnifique.. Ensuite dégustation de 3 vin,dans forcément acheté... Vraiment simple et sympa A faire sans hésiter
