We’ve been exploring the Italian Alps without much of a plan. Each day we leave wherever we stayed for the night and when we stop for lunch we explore the map for a place to stay. We were tired and decided to find someplace that looked nice and wasn’t too expensive. As Chez Magan looked like a family-run place, we chose it. Arriving we found the parking lot easily but the hotel was a bit harder to find (even though we knew we must only be meters away!) please see the photo we just posted and it will help guide you to where to check in. We finally rang the bell at a house where we could hear someone inside. The door opened (not the right door, but it was the owner’s house). The bright smile that opened the door set the tone for an absolutely lovely stay. We were quickly shown around. The beautiful basement breakfast grotto, our room for the night, etc. The welcome was as if we were invited guests rather than weary travelers. After settling in we found some plastic cups and went outside to a wonderful shaded nook and opened a bottle of wine we found locally. After a while our hostess came by to check on us…we were happily enjoying the shade and wine in the grapevine nook…but our hostess was having none of the plastic cups😁. She returned in minutes with wine glasses and even snacks! Our hostess thought of everything. She watched out for anything we might need and was just wonderful. Another thing you’ll notice is that nothing is accidental. Every small decoration is something that she thoughtfully placed. About the rooms. They come across more as guest rooms than hotel rooms. Little decorative touches…comfortable mattress, perfect linens. You’ll sleep the night peacefully with a gentle breeze wafting through the window (at least we did). Finally, the next morning we came down for breakfast. Long before we woke our personal place settings were ready. The breakfast is sweet and European…and I doubt you could finish it all. It’s an abundance of breads, sweets, jams, cheese, and coffee. The bottom line is that we loved it. I truly believe that you’ll depart feeling like you were visiting family. As a side note, this sense seems to affect the other guests we met. Conversations started easily and breakfast was something that felt like a family gathering. Similar to a business that’s run well, it seems that when a hotel is run well, with genuine care and warmth, the feeling carry’s over to the guests. (Wifi was good too!)
