One of the best motels we stayed in during our 5 week tour of Australia and New Zealand. Exceptionally well laid out and maintained accommodation in separate cabins with nice surroundings. Great service and welcome from the proprietor. Can highly recommend and hope to come back some day!

This was an excellent find. It was good to have our own unit. It was super clean and well maintained. Ange and Paul are wonderful hosts and were very helpful in providing dining options, tour information, etc. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend to anyone that is in the area.

This modern, spacious, comfortable studio was just what we were looking for, but we also wanted to enjoy “semi-rural” views from the front porch on arrival. Unfortunately there are no views. We were in B (the best location of the 4 cabins) which at least looked out on a small sheltered garden *****. It was disappointing for us as Geraldine is such a pretty place, but if it’s just for a good overnight sleep you’ll be more than happy at Black on Grey.

We really enjoyed this stay. Had all the modern amenities and a perfect size for us family travelling. Beds and linen were super comfy and a great night sleep was had. The locations is only a few mins drive from the Main Street with everything you need. The icing on the cake was the residents cat that we befriended and she stayed with us in through the night seeking warmth!

A special find! The two-bedroom accessible unit had a green and private outlook meaning you felt like you were in a retreat! The hosts were so welcoming, helpful and went the extra mile during our stay. The shower (who mentions a shower); well, it was the best and others felt so too! Everything you need to a stop over or a longer stay. We shally be heading there again.

We stayed here for two nights to explore the area. It’s squeaky clean and comfortable with a fully stocked kitchen, comfy bed and lounge chairs. Even though we had one of the units by the road, the sound proofing and insulation is good and we weren’t bothered by road noise at all. It was cool the few days we were here, but we didn’t need to worry. There’s a nice, quiet wall heater instead of an annoying heat pump, an extra blanket and even an electric bed warmer. Black on Gray is now our favourite place to stay when we’re in the lovely town of Geraldine

We just spent one night, and the unit (one of four individual units) was clean and equipped as advertised. However, the bathroom sink was crazy small (smaller than most public toilet sinks) and made it impossible to wash your face without getting water all over the floor. The bathroom mirror was also oddly placed in a tiny space between the sink and the shower (they'd placed a window above the sink), so my husband couldn't see what he was doing while shaving. We found mattress-covering heating pads in a few other places over our four-week trip, but most had a cover over the top. On this one I could feel the coils poking through the sheet, which wasn't great. Friendly host, though.

Wonderful Experience! The unit was perfect in every way, cleanliness, comfort especially the bed, cooking facilities were great and we had a treat on our pillow (by the way the pillows were fabulous too). Angelina was extremely hospitable and very accommodating. Would defiantly recommend this and the sweet location of Geraldine. C&B

We recently spent 4 nights at Black on Grey and had a very enjoyable stay. Angeline was welcoming and helpful and we appreciated the little touches like chocolates on our pillows. The setting is great and we enjoyed being just a little out of town, which is an easy half hours walk away. Our 2 bedroom unit was very sunny, spacious, warm, clean, and quiet. The beds were extremely comfortable and the shower was great. It was also lovely to have a private outdoor area. If you are staying in Geraldine this is a great place to stay. While you are there Peel Forest and Mt Peel station are well worth a visit.

An unsolicited free upgrade gave us a large, separate studio unit with king size, comfortable bed, recliner chairs, full kitchen, including large fridge, with all other necessary facilities. Tastefully decorated, and spacious enough to make it easy to stay for multiple days. The bathroom basin is small, and the double glazed windows do not block out all the road noise, but we found it very relaxing and enjoyed it greatly, just as our daughter, her husband, and two kids had done in their family unit previously. Thanks so much to Angeline, our host, who went out of her way to set this up, and turned the heater on early for us. Friendly, personalised service. We'll be back!

We spent a night at Black on Grey while passing through Geraldine. We chose this place as it is dog friendly and we like to travel with our 2 wee dogs. Be warned – we were charged an additional $60 “deep cleaning” fee for the dogs, so it made an otherwise economically priced motel quite expensive. The location is decent if you have a car, just a couple of km south of town. The front units are rather close to the road, copping a bit of road noise, however it was nothing major (very quiet at night). We received a very warm welcome from the owner/managers – very friendly. The units are clean, modern, newly built, and very comfortable and roomy. Our studio unit contained a small but functional kitchenette and appeared to have a decent heating/cooling system, though we didn’t need to use it. The TV comes with Netflix and the Wifi connection was very strong and speedy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will stay here again when next in Geraldine. Highly recommended!

We stayed a week here at New Year in a studio unit. All the units are separate, modern with double glazing, spacious, comfy and super clean! It’s semi rural, so expect the odd truck to pass by at night but that didn’t bother us at all. It’s an easy 3 min drive or 25 min walk into town with so many lovely cafes and shops! Excellent value here with very friendly & helpful owners. A big thanks, we will definitely stay again.

Easy check in, very friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable. Great kitchen.
