We were allocated a cosy room on the second floor. It was well appointed with quality fixtures and fittings. Comfortable beds, good shower (with almost instant hot water and a good flow rate), smart bathroom. Coffee maker as well as kettle and plenty of good quality teas and coffee. Good view from the room on to the main street. Welcomed by friendly staff members; indeed throughout the staff were all friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the meals we had there (dinners and breakfast). It is easy to see haw this establishment won Best Hotel Experience in South of Scotland in 2024. The location is good for exploring South West Scotland but we found there was plenty to explore in the immediate area with walks straight from the door plus the fascinating Mill on the Fleet with its exhibitions on various aspects of Gatehouse (there was much to take in so we went twice).

We found The Ship Inn a delight. The services were first class, rooms and bathroom very good set out to a high standard. Staff were always pleasant and attentive.Food a big part of any break very good and that is from a very fussy eater.All round, if you are visiting Dumfries and Galloway you will not do better than stay at The Ship. oh Gatehouse is a very friendly town also.

The 2 ballards burger was the best I've had in months. Great service and lovely food with a really nice beer garden as well. Can't recommend enough.

We spent 3 nights in the Ship Inn and had a meal each evening in the restaurant No 1 Fleet Street. The hotel is spotlessly clean and we had an extremely well appointed, spacious room of the same high standard to be found everywhere in the hotel. The staff are a credit to themselves and the owners, all welcoming, friendly and very efficient. Breakfast was excellent with plenty on offer. Full Scottish breakfast cooked to order and served hot. The evening meals were superb too and the restaurant was full each night, a testimony to the quality of the food. We have been in a lot of hotels in the UK over many years and The Ship Inn is every bit as good as the best of them. All in all, a wonderful experience from start to finish and we would return in a heartbeat.

Everything was excellent - location, staff, dinner, breakfast, room - I'm an Englishman with nothing to complain about! I'm only sad that we couldn't stay a second night.

the Ship Inn is a lovely hotel in Gatehouse of Fleet, Galloway. The town has a good range of pubs, resaurants and independent shops and the Ship Inn is centrally located and handy for everything. The hotel has been recently renovated, to a high standard. The room was a good size and very comfortable, with a great bed, and the ensuite was perfect and equipped with essential toiletries. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Meals in the restaurant were of a very high standard and plentiful. All in all, highly recommended (and book direct for the best price).

Correspondence with this hotel was excellent, prompt, excellent information, well trained on local services which was impressive. A big shout out to Sarah. Room was not so good, no fridge, no bottled water, my husband hit his head on the vault ceiling twice….. not so good. Our fellow friends had lovely room, ours was a bit rubbish. It was comfortable but very small, bathroom was great, but how long do you spend in there. The best thing about the hotel was the staff. Alina, welcomed us at reception and at breakfast, consummate professional and had such poise and friendliness. So the award for ‘experience’ is well deserved, but come on no fridge,no water, get with the programme . A very nice place that forgets the room detail.

A well run hotel with excellent room fittings and friendly staff. Meals in the restaurant are well presented and cooked. Parking either in street or local car park, all free.

Good hotel just a few issues let it down first night wife didn’t sleep well due to broken bed was fixed. Management did not get involved and no apology Had to leave a day early but still had to pay full amount
