My husband booked an evening meal for us on 18/07/25 on messenger. When we arrive he was met with a blank face and the lady behind the bar told us that the landlady was at a funeral. She knew nothing about us being booked in. It's my understanding that before you go anywhere you make sure all your staff know what's going on. Lucky it wasn't busy and we did get to eat. The cover ladies (one from Salisbury and two from Blackpool) where good and coped with the world of poo they where left in. Management you really need to take a look at what's going on.

Genuine, honest, unpretentious, friendly, traditional and authentic. Very welcoming and in a tranquil location. Beer and food excellent value and great service.

Comfy bed, warm welcome. Changeover of staff meant we were there 1 night with temp staff and 2nd night with permanent staff. Both gave great service buy the chef on the second days attention to presentation was outstanding. Beautiful breakfast included in price! Only criticism was there were no windows that opened in our room which made it a little stuffy. It was clean and had a beautiful view. A beautiful old building with quirky floors :) loved my stay and will be back if chance presents itself.

John (aka Tim) and Emma are very welcoming and relaxed. We only had the one night stay with them but the location was spot on for our visit. The food was really good and priced very fair. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included in our price and again was very good. We would definitely stay again should the need arise.

Well after reading such review's we were expecting a warm welcome ..it's was anything but cold & unwelcoming. ( Warm & welcoming host must have the weekend off) Room was ok bathroom absolutely trip hazard door doesn't shut fully ..very thin curtains so daylights comes through at 4am Breakfast was spot on lots of choice and Nicely cooked full English no choice of eggs got scrambled..very much felt like had your room and breakfast now disappear from my premises. Was warned on way down it's a rought place( take heed ) ...shame the host was so unfriendly we stayed in our room even thought their was a bar to drink in

Ate here twice while staying at a B&B in the village - very good food both times, tasty, generous size and very reasonably priced. Friendly welcome and customer service. The pub is under new management - they are only 4 weeks in and seems to be doing a grand job of turning the place round, previous poor reviews under the earlier management do them a disservice - give it a go

Called in to pub as now under new management, extremely friendly couple, very helpful with beer choice, pub now looking clean and inviting with a lovely open fire. Highly recommend. A lovely place to stop off when you need a break on your walk. Looking forward to visiting again.

Visited today after hearing it was under new management. What a difference friendly ,welcoming .It was clean and we had a chat with the lovely couple who have taken on this very old pub. Looking forward to going back when they do food . So I hope all the new visitors ignore the bad reviews and give this couple a chance to keep this old pub going .

OMG where do I start, worst place I have ever stayed in. Place was filthy, room had paper hanging off walls, water stained ceiling, and sink in ensuite had been bodged to replace damage. Glasses and cutlery dirty, breakfast uncooked and cold. Staff not particularly friendly. Booked for 3 nights, left after 2, absolutely disgusted.
