Un’esperienza davvero particolare, essere alloggiati in una casa troglodita ipogea verticale. Le stanze si dipartono da una ampia corte centrale, completamente scoperta. Vi è una sala per cenare e fare colazione, e un corridoio con i bagni, uno per ciascuna stanza, che accolgono 4-6 persone. Da qui si parte per diverse escursioni, ad esempio per visitare il paese amazigh (berbero) di Tamerzet (non dimenticate di vedere l’interessantissimo museo) o il geosito de Benighedin (per le impronte di un antico sauropode…)

This is a no go zone. Don't pay any attention to the 'romantic' reviews. It is a no go zone and nobody should stay here (unless you're a desperate backpacker) for many reasons but the first one is this: THERE IS NO PRIVATE BATHROOM. NO WC. NO WATER. NOT A EVEN A SINK in any of the rooms. The property says falsely there is a 'private bathroom' but it does not tell you that the so called private bathroom is 20 yards away OUTSIDE the room. Imagine if you wish to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night or at all. Check in is only open from 5 to 7 pm exclusively. Basic, overpriced and more than uncomfortable. And the price was $91 per night. For a room without a WC and no facilities. Ignore the other reviews. This is the truth. So. Don't.

A unique lovely place out of the town with large underground rooms that face out together into a central open patio. Without A/C units ratling away it's a very peaceful place... the silence was deafening! But it is cooler underground anyway so there is no need for them even if 40deg outside! The food was excellent in quality and quantity cooked by in house chef and served in an underground dining area. Lovely underground places to sit / relax with colourful lighting. Wifi only near the entrance. On arrival there was no information board, or front desk about local tours, maps or what one can do here. Information was not freely offered and had to be asked for, so you feel out on a limb unless you have a hire car. If you're fit you can walk upto Matmata which is 5km away and takes about an hour. However the hidden gem was the owner Habib who will take you on a private tour in his own car pretty much where ever you want, he has lots of local knowledge... just be sure to agree a price with him, before he takes you on a trip! Also... English is not spoken here despite the 'English Spoken' under languages being ticked so as with all Tunisia in general polish up on your French! Bon Voyage!

Vivre dans une habitation traditionnelle troglodytique c’est une expérience géniale. Les hôtes sont très professionnels et sympathiques et la nourriture excellente. Nous avons passé un agréable séjour.

Excellente cuisine le soir. Petit déjeuner trop locale : Pour nous français, il manquait le jus d'orange. Pour le couchage, les chambres dont agréables mais la litterie très inconfortable. Nous avions des "parpaings " à la place d´oreillers. L'accueil est un peu froid et le prix excessif par rapport aux autres logements du pays. Je conseille de dormir dans un lieu plus confortable et visiter une maison troglodyte plus authentique. Il y en a plein dans la region

Este es un alojamiento especial, nada parecido a un hotel normal y corriente. Los antiguos habitantes de Matmata supieron construir sus viviendas para protegerse de las inclemencias del clima así como de posibles enemigos. Sus moradas eran indetectables, ya que excavaron grandes agujeros en el suelo, y alrededor de estos pequeñas habitaciones como cuevas. Las habitaciones son fresquitas y confortables, decoradas con buen gusto y sencillez. Al ser como pequeñas cuevas no tienen ventanas, y la iluminación es tenue así que se crea un ambiente muy romántico. Es fantástico sentir el contraste entre la temperatura exterior y la que conserva la cueva. Es un lugar ideal para desconectar, ya que en las habitaciones no hay cobertura de mobil. Aún así te puedes conectar a la wifi en la zona de recepción. Cada habitación tiene su propio baño que se encuentra en la parte moderna del alojamiento, es decir, hay que salir al patio hasta la zona de recepción para acceder a este. Los baños son sencillos y les falta una mampara para no mojar todo el suelo cuando te duchas. Normalmente ofrecen la estancia en media pensión, a base de ricos platos típicos del país (algunos son picantes), y el personal es muy amable y servicial. Recomiendo vivir la experiencia de alojarse en este bonito lugar!
