Quality Inn Stephens City-Winchester South

Clean facilities with recently updated room. Convenient location with easy on/off the highway. Check in and check out were both easy, fast and efficient. Free breakfast was good with several hot and cold options. Bed and pillows were comfy, and wifi was fast. This was our second stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to return again. Coffee shop and fast food take outs were within easy walking distance.

This was our fourth annual visit, and we were sorely disappointed this time. The main issues were safety and staff's attitude toward safety and customer service. Our room door was ajar when we checked in. Our keys didn't work the next morning, and when we told the front desk attendant about the open door and pointed out that it was a safety issue, she said only that housekeeping was still finishing up in the room. We had checked in at 9:30pm. She made no attempt at acknowledging our concerns and no attempt at any kind of personal interaction about anything. The room was not very clean; there were stains on the bedding and the drapes, and the bathroom had been cleaned only perfunctorily--it hadn't been scrubbed in some time. We'd have reported that when we checked out, but the desk clerk didn't ask how things were; he was almost as distant as the woman the day before. It took several tries to get his attention when we came to the desk because he was glued to his phone, although we were in his direct view through the office door. Breakfast was even more disappointing; no one monitoring when things ran out, equipment not working right, very limited selections, etc., even though we got there early. This is down to the level of nitpicking, but when a stay begins with a bit of a security scare and no one on staff cares, you start looking for things to criticize. Our first three stays here were okay. We don't know what happened in the last year, but it's not good. There are other lodging options nearby. That's where you'll find us next year.

Nice place for an overnight stay. Person at check-in desk was helpful and suggested a good place for dinner that was not fastfood. Room was large and so was the bathroom. Furnishings were a little tired but adequate. I had 2 issues. The pillows were very lumpy and should be replaced. The doors are very noisy when they close. They always seem to slam shut. That was annoying late at night. The breakfast was fine. I would stay there again.

The hotel is what you would expect from a Quality Inn, clean room-standard breakfast-convenient location. The girl that checked us in (I do not know her name because she said about 6 words to us) could have cared less if we were there or not. The morning crew was much more friendly. The breakfast girl is outstanding, friendly & helpful. I would stay again - not a vacation spot, but perfect while traveling. I have stayed at the hotel next door & find the Quality Inn a better value. There is a very good Italian/Greek restaurant around the corner (could walk - 15 minutes) the drive is SUPER EASY-a side street. There are gas stations/stores at the exit also

We are a couple travelling from Canada and found it was easy access off the interstate. Beds were comfortable although breakfast was sparse. We would recommend this place as a safe comfortable place to stay if travelling on i81.

The motel was having renovations but our room was very nice and clean and it was very quiet there. The staff was pleasant and helpful. There were fast food restaurants in walkable distance and other restaurants to drive to. I felt the breakfast was lacking.

Have stayed here each year during the Cedar Creek battlefield events. Easy access from several roads and a good hotel. Reliable service, clean rooms, good breakfasts! Room was quiet and well equipped with fridge, coffee, microwave etc. I’ll be back!

The hotel was quite good but was not worth the 12000 choice hotel points. If they charged 8000 points, I would rate it great. The hotel advertises a refrigerator, but it does not cool. Had to put meds and cooling pads in the office refrigerator. The hotel was clean, quiet and the staff was great. breakfast was OK but not great,

We had stayed at this hotel many years ago, and when we had to attend a funeral recently, naturally looked at it again. It had the best special on prices (hence the rating). We had room 106 in the back -next to the pool. (We had requested a quiet room, not near ice machines or elevators...I forgot to also specify not near pool and side entrance.) There were a few people in the pool, but it got quiet pretty soon. We just couldn't open our drapes due to privacy issues, so we had a "blackout" room for three days. The room was a king room, but had enough empty space to fit two queens. The carpet, bathroom tiles and vanity were recent, lighting were modern and enough cell phone re chargers. The bed was comfortable. The shower stall was peeling inside and pretty small-I kept hitting the hot/cold with my elbow. The bathroom didn't have enough racks/space to truly hold and dry towels that weren't supposed to be changed except every 3 days during our stay. The side chair had an upholstery split on the arm. The room had dark but modern paint colors. Plenty of soaps, etc., hot water, a/c, towels, etc. Our main issue was that everything cloth in the room seemed "damp". Perhaps we are just not used to the humidity in summer in VA now. The free hot breakfast was the worst we have encountered. There were the usual dry cereals/oatmeal, waffle maker, juices, yogert, but the bread and pastry cabinet only had a few leftover items the days and times we were there, and the hot item was "white" gravy with black pepper, and a few biscuits in the warmer. If there was meat in the gravy, it was a topic for discussion between my husband, and our son who was staying in another room. No fruit. No microwave...so I had a package of instant oatmeal mixed with some "hot" water and milk from respective carafes. The uncooked "woodchips" stayed with me all day....something for my stomach to work on during the funeral. We ate out the rest of the mornings-a Waffle House is right around the corner. We would recommend the hotel (not necessarily rm 106 unless you like a dark room or no privacy), but eat breakfast elsewhere.
