My wife and I travelled from Canada to Cape Town on route to our Safari vacation. We decided to stay in the region to help us recover from jetlag before continuing on. This lead us to some wine tasting in Franschhoek and the Akademie Street Hotel. What an incredible surprise and pleasure it was. First we were greeted by Declan who's attention to detail is beyond reproach. All of the employee were helpful, courteous and happy to be there. Breakfast & Cocktails (accompanied by a pianist) in the glass covered atrium was simply a delight. The attention to detail is what impressed us the most, from the towels, blanket & sun hat that await you every day by the pool to the small stove in our room that was prepared by the staff if you wanted to warm up by the fireplace, all you had to do is light a match. And if you like they would light it for you all you have to do is ask;-) Need a bicycle to ride around town, need to organize a day trip or play a game of Boule they have you covered. Did I mention that Declan offered us the (free) use of a mobile phone for our stay in case we needed to make some local calls!!! Snacks and drinks in our room were restocked every day, no charge. No hidden costs at this hotel. At the end of our stay we departed at 3:15 am to catch our next flight, the staff was ready and handed us a travel breakfast and coffee @ Declan thank you and your staff for the incredible stay. A 5 star treat!!! We just wish the staff (Monique Swartz) at the Franschhoek Wine Tram company would honour their own refund policy. This was the only black mark on our trip, total ScamTram. To fellow travellers use Uber to get to the wineries, it's cheaper and you can set your own schedule. We never waited more than 5 mins for ride and we had a chance to meet some great locals as our drivers. We plan to be back, but skip the Scam Tram. Cheers, Robert & Anne (Canada)
