Hotel in zona KSB Kleingartenanlage, Frankenthal

We travelled to Ludwigshafen for business and looked for hotels near to the work premises, unfortunately the 'Excelsior Hotel' was first in the list. At only 90 euros a night (including breakfast) it is no doubt a 'budget' option, but it isn't budget in the respect of a Travelodge or Premier Inn, instead it's a lost hotel in a pretty unpleasant area which has been left to decay. The hotel is a short walk from the railway station, graffiti-covered walls surround the hotel, and the first impression of the hotel visually is not a positive one, it's hard to even find the way in, amongst scaffolding and concrete jungle. At night, it's a fairly unsafe-feeling area, with people 'hangin around' looking suspicious. The one positive aspect upon booking was the 'Skybar', however digging deeper into reviews, it's clear that it's been closed long before the 'pandemic', infact 4 years ago, and upon arrival we were informed that it's still closed with no future planned. There is no restaurant onsite, nor bar besides a mini-fridge sat on the reception desk with a few bottles of beer available. Upon check-in, I was also asked for my 'date of birth' and home address, which often feels irrelevant, I refused to give such details. Once in the room, via the lift which takes about 5 minutes to arrive and to move, there's no air conditioning which during 32c weather was painful, but fortunately there was a fan. The room size isn't bad at all and the bed was comfortable, but the presentation of the room, as a new guest, wasn't considerate. A pile of electrical extension and cables was next to my bed, not tucked away out of sight. The internet connection was virtually useless in the afternoon/evenings after guests start to utilise it, I resorted to using mobile data instead. There are balconies, but they're just concrete and far from cosy, although the view over the city isn't at all bad. There is no furniture and in addition from a security aspect someone could easily go from their balcony to yours, therefore always be sure to lock and chain the balcony door when not in the room, or at night. At night, you can hear noise from neighbouring rooms, above, below and to the sides, I am also fairly sure that I had 3 'bed-bug' bites from my two night stay at the hotel. Breakfast was included in my 90 euro rate and the breakfast restaurant isn't bad, the service is friendly but the choice is limited, a few cold options and minimal hot options, no bacon or sausages unfortunately. It was a little off-putting to see mouse-traps being laid around the restaurant while I was sat trying to enjoy my meal. While away from the hotel, I left the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door, despite this upon return later that afternoon the cleaner had been into the room and cleaned, this is not acceptable when the message is clearly made that the room should not be disturbed. First off, understand that Ludwigshafen is not a happening place. I was here for business, for which I feel the place would be adequate for a day or two stay, but not the week I was here. I titled this as ”try hard”, as that's what I hear my kids call someone who is tries hard and fails, which I feel fits since the hotel tries really hard to be modern and hip. Moxy is Marriot's new brand aimed at the youth and the copies board games, lockers, random graffiti and whatnot scattered around the lobby would imply they are going that way. Considering most of the time it was filled with old businessmen like me would say they might want to consider having this in a more appropriate location. Moxy Lu is a very spartan hotel. No restaurant to speak of - on Sunday I asked if they had any lunch offerings as nothing is around there and they told me their one and only oven, used to cook breakfast, was broken and wouldn't be working for at least a few hours. There is a very solid Italian restaurant next door but you don't want to eat that every day. There's also right now a Christmas market nearby but the opening timing for it is very variable. It's also next to the Rhine mall but understand that German business hours are earlier than American so it closes early and is closed entirely on Sunday. Rooms are clearly advertised as capsule types and they are very reminiscent of Japanese capsule rooms - a bed, bathroom, a chair, and that's it. A hook on the wall and 4 hangers is all your clothes storage, a 6 inch wide, 2 foot long glass panel sticking out from the wall is your ”desk”, and that's it. No safe, no shelves, no coffee machine, nothing. Definitely not where I wanted to spend a week, but that's not their fault. The hotel is very new and is very clean overall. Also a plus that it is very quiet. I've been in hotels where I could literally hear the person walking around next door. All that said, why 3 stars? Well, as clean as it was, there was a long black hair at eye level in the shower when I first stepped in. As I'm folically challenged, I'm certain it wasn't mine. Secondly, one of the elevators broke multiple times while I was there, once trapping a person in there for 15 minutes while I was in the lobby. He eventually tumbled out, angry, scared, and half-clothed (took off some clothes as he was feeling very hot). Said elevator was not flagged as being out of order for at least an hour after as I was in and out. Eventually it was. It had an out of order sign still on it on my second day despite being in use...assumed this was an error before the guy got caught in front of me. Not good management of an issue, I feel.

The Mercure Mannheim Rathaus is a bit dated but still OK and very practical / functional for a stay in Mannheim. Centrally located. Friendly staff. Clean. Access with public transit is a bit tricky, either a 25-minute walk from the main station or a combination of tram / walk. Arriving by car is much easier, they have a garage (do not know about the cost though). One nice things for a stay during the summer period: you can open the windows at the hotel for fresh air. Downside: there was no vault in the room.

Hotel di grande impatto visivo (negli spazi comuni, meno nelle camere) nel pieno centro di Mannheim a meno di 5 minuti a piedi dalla Marktplatz: in quanto a posizione si può definire eccezionale. Prenotato tramite Trip.com al costo di 164,18€ per tre notti, due persone, colazione esclusa, posso dire che in generale si è trattato di un buon soggiorno. Da considerare però alcuni aspetti rivedibili nella gestione generale e nella risoluzione di un problema, avvenuta solo l’ultimo giorno. Al nostro arrivo siamo subito stati accolti dal personale della reception che ci ha assegnato la camera e che ci ha indicato il garage dell’Hotel. Purtroppo il parcheggio era pieno e abbiamo portato la nostra auto nel garage sotterraneo della Marktplatz. Comodissimo perché estremamente vicino all’albergo, ma leggero disagio nel trasporto dei bagagli: ci si deve andare già preparati e non lo eravamo (il personale dovrebbe avere il dettaglio degli spazi assegnati alle auto nel proprio garage). La camera ha colori orientati sullo scuro, con bagno non molto ampio dotato di doccia, asciugacapelli e prodotti omaggio. Buon Wi-Fi, televisore, cassaforte, acqua in bottiglia offerta, aria condizionata che si aziona insieme alla corrente elettrica della stanza, inserendo nell’apposito dispositivo una delle carte di accesso. Cura dei dettagli e della manutenzione in alcuni punti migliorabile ma, visto il prezzo, e visti in generale la posizione e l’ambiente della struttura, direi che non c’è assolutamente da lamentarsi. Unico problema: il frigorifero non funzionante. Dopo averlo fatto presente al personale della reception in entrambi i primi due giorni di permanenza, il problema è stato risolto con la sostituzione solo nel tardo pomeriggio del terzo e ultimo giorno. Apprezzato però il buono per due cocktail offerti nel bar dell’hotel per compensare il disguido. In generale, rivedendo alcuni punti che dovrebbero più guardare alla sostanza che all’immagine “glamour” dell’ambiente, la struttura è risultata conveniente a livello di prezzo e comodissima a livello di posizione, bello il bar e piacevole l’area-sala giochi. Credo che in presenza di tariffe simili a quelle trovate in questa occasione sarebbe nuovamente la scelta ideale per un nuovo futuro soggiorno a Mannheim.

La posizione è molto conveniente, mangiare intorno, la strada è molto conveniente, la torre d'acqua è molto vicina, la camera è molto grande, le letti principali sono duri, non come altri letti alberghiere europei sono molto morbide.

Eccellente Express. Parcheggio sotterraneo, hotel moderno e camere molto pulite. Staff gentilissimo e disponibile. Curato nella pulizia specie in questo periodo di difficoltà. Ottima colazione. Davvero consigliato. Vicino alla stazione ferroviaria, facile arrivare

Stavo qui due notti per lavorare e non potevo difettarlo. La posizione è perfetta - vicino alla stazione ferroviaria. La mia camera da letto era grande e ben attrezzata con buone viste sulla città. Il colazione era molto buono - non una grande selezione, ma tutto quello che volete in pratica. Il stock sul sito era ben stoccato e ragionevolmente costoso. Il personale era amichevole e utile. Sarei sicuramente rimasto qui la prossima volta che sono nella zona per lavorare

Großes Haus in guter Lage. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Zimmer im dritten Stock war komfortabel, die Matratze schön fest. Die Kopfkissen sind nicht so toll aber davon gibt es genug, damit man es sich bequem machen kann. WLAN top. Das Badezimmer geräumig mit Wannendusche. Sauber war such alles. Das Frühstück war gut. Leider das Rührei aus dem Tetrapack - ist aber wohl mittlerweile Standard. Die gekochten Eier waren auf den Punkt perfekt. Aufschnitt beim Käse und der Wurst überschaubar. Besonders lecker und überraschend war der warme Milchreis mit Früchten.
