This is a really fabulous little hotel. I was surprised and delighted by the lovely room and the menu choices at dinner were excellent. A great breakfast, too. The staff are pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I was here on a business trip but will come back for pleasure soon.

My husband and myself visited Plantation House for a meal. The food was wonderful , absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Very relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very attentive without any fussing.the next time we go, we'll stay overnight! We will go again!🤗

A lot of thought & effort goes into this place, not just water but fruit and biscuits in the room, as well as a very comfortable bed and lovely shower. We were there for a wedding at Shilstone House which was perfect given that Plantation House was only 15 minutes away. We got back around 11pm and a staff member was there to greet us back and offer us a drink from the very well stocked bar. The only slight niggle I have is that I think £185 is a lot of money. We are going to a wedding in the Cotswolds and paying £145 for a room which was what I would normally expect to pay in Devon. However, we wanted to be close to the wedding venue and somewhere nice, which it definitely was.

What a great find! We booked this prior to a cross channel ferry to France. We arrived mid afternoon and had tea and fruit cake which was a lovely start. The room was just perfect luxurious comfortable and so spacious. We had lovely views across the countryside and everything you could possibly wish for. The shower was amazing, alos a nice dressing room alongside gave it that extra touch of luxury with gorgeous products included. The bed was like a cloud just perfect. We had dinner in the restaurant and the quality of the food presentation and cooking was outstanding pre dinner drinks we also lovely with the nice touch of olives and nuts to accompany. We had a wonderful nights sleep and woke to another great meal breakfast was again first class. My husband left our charging pad and after contacting the owner it was sent back to us for which I am very grateful. I can’t wait to go back to stay here but for a longer period next time. I highly recommend the Plantation House Hotel and Restaurant

We used our weekend stay to visit local friends. We hadn't seen Richard since the pandemic and it was a pleasure to meet him and his charming team again. They gave us a wonderful welcome and looked after us very well; nothing was too much trouble. Our en-suite room was very comfortable and well-equipped. Dinner on Saturday night was truly outstanding! Such care and thought had gone into each dish; breakfasts were equally delicious. An excellent rating barely does the hotel justice, it's fabulous!

An evening meal in their restaurant was superb. We are all vegetarian and Richard created a special menu for us. Every course was delicious. It is best to book in advance and specify vegetarian so tha they have time to design the best possible menu.

I don't often write reviews but having just returned from Plantation House and read the recent reviews before we got here I was concerned that there wouldn't be any vegetarian option. How wrong could anyone be! The food here is amazing, everything is home made and cooked from scratch with the finest ingredients. We advised Richard and his team that I am vegetarian and it was no problem whatsoever, I can understand that maybe people expect a vegetarian option these days but for me? I would always check, after all if I went to a vegetarian restaurant I wouldn't expect to see steak on the menu if I was a meat eater and my partner a veggie....so it's best to let them know here and the result is vegetarian fine dining at its best! The rooms are spotlessly clean and the staff can't do enough for you to ensure a comfortable stay, cake on arrival is delicious and you just feel so welcome from the time you arrive to the time you leave. Breakfast dishes up the best of everything and the coffee is hot and strong and the cheese omelette is a must! Thank you Richard and your team for the most enjoyable 5 star stay, we will be back!

What a special meal, as a treat to celebrate Father's Day with my husband and parents! We are lucky enough to live locally, and to have experienced this wonderful restaurant before. We have been vegetarian for 50 years and all agree that Richard deserves an award for his sensational vegetarian cooking! We also know that he takes feedback constructively and so I must add that I sympathise with the couple who said in a review in March that they would not visit again because there was not a veggie option on the menu. I would encourage them to revisit, with a conversation in advance, and I would encourage Richard to ensure there is always a veggie option :-) Thank you to Richard and team for making us feel so special. Fellow veggies, please do visit, so Richard can dazzle with his veggie cooking skills more often!

Everything about the hotel was lovely; the friendly welcoming staff, the beautiful room with its view from the back of the house, the fabulous dinner and great location close to the river Erm. We had such a great stay. Thank you so much to the hotel team.
