We stayed at Kalu Hideaway for just one night but wish we could have stayed longer. We experienced wonderful hospitality, with the staff going out of their way to accommodate us. The management were so kind in assisting us with a special request. The food was delicious. Rooms really comfortable. Beautiful setting.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Kalu's Hideaway. We visited this area to explore the Udawawe National Park in Sri Lanka. We enjoyed the game-watching (especially the elephants) and the incredible variety of bird sightings. The hotel was an excellent example of Sri Lanka's hospitality. The staff are lovely, helpful, and kind. Chef Pete was also outstanding. He came out of the kitchen at meals and made our dinners and Breakfasts to his perfection. We are incredibly grateful for all the attention to detail he gave us. He also brought us to the beautiful gardens that served the hotel and showed us the lovely produce. It was a special personal touch for us.

This place is a hidden gem, it is so peaceful! The staff & management are very welcoming & helpful. The rooms, WOW, they are wonderful, very comfortable bed & great bathroom. The food is mouthwatering. Make sure chief Peter makes you a Sri Lankan (hopper) breakfast. We highly recommend a stay here.

Beautiful hotel, full of charm, the area is characterized by a very natural and authentic atmosphere, we liked to see wild animals around thanks to the river that passes right at the end of the garden. The staff was extremely friendly professional and welcoming. We wanted to give our greatest appreciation to the Chef : Peter, who prepared the best Sri Lankan meals we had during our 2 weeks trip.

Nice small hotel well located for visiting the local national park and seeing the elephants at the nearby orphanage. Our room and bathroom was a good size, had a nice balcony with a day bed. The chef was a real star. He was very friendly and when there are less guests staying asks what you want to it. You can also help him collect the vegetables and fruit from the garden. A hilarious outside gym and a great pool table room for games. The quiet location in the countryside, the nice garden and the pool were all real positives. Yes the outside areas are tired in places but it adds to the charm. It’s a small rural boutique style hotel rather than a luxurious one.

Secluded place merged with nature. So peaceful ! We are a family of 4 ( 2 children ) and stayed at the chalet which was a lot of space, 3 beds and privacy as it is separated from the others rooms. Staff in totality were just amazing and very helpful. Special compliments to Mr Sam Jeewa, waiter in the restaurant. Every requested we made to him was received with a smile and nothing was a problem, very good English and attitude ! Our safari guide as well went above and beyond finding elephants and other animals during our trip. Thank you

An absolutely fantastic hotel that lives up to its name. The food was lovely, the rooms super (with incredibly high ceilings!) and the pool just gorgeous. Lots of Kalu memorabilia for cricket fans and a 3/4 sized snooker table too. Lovely people, lovely location, lovely stay.

We stayed for one night and wished it could have been longer. Beautiful off the beaten track location. It was not busy, perhaps 4 couples during our stay. This perhaps impacted on menu and bar products. However that didn't impact our stay. We were given a top floor room, large sitting area and a very large bathroom with large walk-in shower area. Nice pool and gardens. As with all our stays in Sri Lanka, staff were friendly, welcoming and provided excellent service.

We stayed here for one night. We wish we could have stayed longer! We came from a late safari at the national park. Very very close to the national park. We checked in easily and the room was beautifully decorated. Safari styled room. Hotel had amazing Sri Lankan cricketer Kalus memorabilia. Food was cooked by a wonderful chef - Peter. It was all fresh and delicious. Vegetables and fruits from their gardens. Our restaurant and bar server was also amazing and friendly. Pool and gardens were just beautiful. Some work could be done to the decking around the pool - but apart from that it was 10/10. Would highly recommend staying here if in udawalawe. Little oasis of Sri Lanka.
