The Old Hall Ely

My daughter picked the Old Hall by chance, pretty much mid way between Norfolk and Northants to meet up before Xmas for afternoon tea. Surprisingly few historic places in Norfolk did afternoon tea at the weekend ! Beautiful hotel, parts clearly very old but the more recent extensions done incredibly well, inside was stunning as were the gardens. Staff were lovely, friendly relaxed nothing to much trouble but not in your face all the time. Afternoon tea was brilliant, a nice selection of sandwiches and some lovely cakes ! That’s the diet blown ! Ely is one place I don’t know well but looks well worth a longer visit. Great views accross to the cathedral from our table. Highly recommended, we’ll definitly be back hopefully for longer next time.

Every bite was a celebration, and it was evident that you put love into every plate. Thank you to all the events, restaurant and bar staff, your warm hospitality and attention to detail made us feel right at home. The service was impeccable, and you all made sure our needs were met, allowing us to fully enjoy the evening without a worry. Thank you for creating the perfect ambiance. The music added a magical touch to the night, making it truly unforgettable. You all set the mood for joyous celebrations and meaningful connections. Together, you all made for an amazing night that we will cherish for years to come.

We stayed here 8th October and I have to say this is without doubt one of the most immaculately kept Hotels we have ever had the pleasure to stay in. The welcome received from all members of staff is second to none, the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, needless to say they are spotlessly clean. The food is amazing and the grounds are to a standard of Royal Households Well done to Mrs M and all of her dedicated team …we will be back !

I really enjoyed The Old Hall in Ely. It was a wonderful retreat for my partner and I for my birthday. A really magical experience. I thought the atmosphere, the views, the surroundings and the decor was beautiful. We opted for the a superior double room which was very nice however the lack of a kettle, fridge and phone in the room was an inconvenience. To get hold of anyone you had to call the hotel from your mobile. Staff numbers were limited so it was incredibly quiet which is great, but getting hold of a member of staff at the bar proved challenging. Tip, order a bottle of wine as this prevents you having to chase down a member of staff. I found the breakfast to be delicious, I had the granola with fruit. The selection of pastries and other food at the buffet was limited, and it would have been nice to have freshly made coffee. For £20 a head we found this a little lacking in value for money.

I had the pleasure of attending the New Year's Eve event at the Old Hall and it was fantastic. The venue is lovely and was perfectly suited for a New Year's Eve Black Tie party. The three course meal tasted amazing and was presented so well and the cheese counter was a hit with everyone. The staff were so friendly and attentive and really helped to make the experience - I can't say enough about how great they were. The entertainment was great - the Sax man was brilliant! I'd have loved to have seen more of the grounds - perhaps next time... I am looking forward to visiting again.

We were looking for a quite 4 day getaway from London during the holiday season and were very happy with this hotel. Firstly, the location: surrounded by vast gardens, open spaces and located just off the A142, we could not have asked for a better place to completely re-energise and cutoff. The hotel itself was impeccable and tastefully decorated giving a warm, cozy and relaxing vibe. The reception also had an interesting collection of board games and books for our perusal near the fireplace. We were very happy with the size of the room (Octagon) and the amenities inside which included a nespresso coffee maker, a hot water bag and high end toiletries. We were warmly welcomed with a delicious complimentary carrot cake and tea and the staff were extremely courteous to make our stay comfortable. Although the food and drinks were good, the options were limited to a set menu: we had to order only grazing boards for dinner and the restaurant was closed for an event (which we understand is quite frequent given its known to be a wedding venue) in one of the days. This is something you should keep in mind given the hotel is not walking distance from Ely city.
