Nice reception

The staff were very nice and helpful. Unfortunately the room had a very bad smell of damp/drains 🤢 I felt that our clothes were smelling when we left the property, my 7 year old has developed a bad cough since, it may be unrelated. I didn't notice the smell when we first went in as they had the window open, we closed it then went out for the day, the smell was awful when we got back. The Royal Hotel should not be putting anyone in this room until they fix the problem.

Food was good everything else was bad, we booked this as it looked tidy and clean with nice bedrooms and when we got there we was put into a side building that felt like a hostel, very dirty with broken windows and dust everywhere. The rooms we got was nothing like what we was looking at in the pictures when we booked. Overall very poor and would definitely not recommend to anyone.

I checked in expecting on of the rooms advertised thinking that was the room I’d paid for, for the two nights. We were put into the annex which smelt of cigarettes and dampness. There was dust everywhere, window latch was broken, the shower leaked, the iron was stained with burn marks, the room was cold and dark, the carpet needed to be hoovered. Alex was lovely and tried to help. He offered us the family room but told us if we didn’t like the room we had we wouldn’t like that one. So he said he would put us into the room we were expecting for the next day. I got back from spreading my grandfathers ashes and got put into the new room. It was much worse. Lights aren’t working, toilet floor is lifting (Lino) and a trip hazard, the toilet handle was broken, stains of fingerprints on the wall, stains on lamps, damp marks on walls, the door is stiff to open (we literally had to barge the door open and slam it shut). I have taken so many photos and asked the girl at reception for a complaint form. She said no. She told me I had to be email them or write on a piece of paper so I said I would do both. She slammed the pen and paper down at me. The food here is good though. Alex was lovely and did try to help but the rooms I believed I paid for were not what was received. It was false advertising. No wonder the rooms I had are not advertised! The rooms I had received were not worth £270. Sunday 25th August, we had to leave at 7am latest for a 12 hours journey. No one was in reception. We called the ring bell 6 times. No answer. Tried calling the phone to see if anyone would answer. No answer. In the end I had to leave the letter and keys on the reception desk and go. Thankfully, we paid for our food the first night. But this hotel is Shocking! Avoid it!

Stayed in this hotel with a group of children who were attending an event. We had an excellent experience. The hotel was spotless, the bar and restaurant were very comfortable and the rooms perfect for our needs. The staff were incredibly helpful. They did everything they could to make the trip a pleasant one. We were too early for breakfast. A packed lunch was left every morning at 5.45am for the children. The evening meals were exceptional and we were so well looked after by Ellis. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here with other friends and we were allocated an annex room on the ground floor. The only window in the dark dingy room looked out at a yard full of rubbish and high walls so no view. The bathroom was cramped with a mouldy shower curtain and water went everywhere when showering and no extractor fan to take steam away. Breakfast wasn’t great with very little healthy choice. When you arrive at the hotel you notice that that there is no welcome appeal with weeds growing where flowers used to grow. This is a very tired old hotel that is overpriced and would not recommend to anyone.

This has to be one of the worst hotels we have stayed in. Allocated a ground floor room in annex, dark & dingy room, black mould on ceiling about shower cubicle, rusted light fitting above bathroom sink. No housekeeeping, apparently we needed to hang a sign on our door to allow housekeeping to enter, perhaps this should be explained on checkin. Breakfast 7am-9am, however last time for cooked breakfast orders is 8:45, again nothing communicated on check in. Breakfast however was worse than school dinners, rubber scrambled eggs, cold food. No offer of compensation made on complaining about standard of hotel. Don’t waste your money staying here.

This hotel is terrible. The reception area us non existent. Our room was large but the furniture is old and mismatched. The bed didn't have a head board. It looked out on to a back yard and bins. The bathroom is tiny. The bedroom door didn't lick properly so I had to carry my valuables with me. The breakfast was inedible. Do not stay here
