I arrived at the Premier Inn, based in Elgin at approx 2.55pm. I had travelled by bus from Glasgow for 6 hours & was keen to shower before visiting my mother in law, who is still at home being cared for, and in the process of dying. I was advised by the receptionist that my room was not ready, as it hadn't been cleaned. There was another couple behind me, who were also advised of the same thing. I explained that I thought check in was 3pm? The receptionist was not apologetic, in fact she seemed quite abrasive. ,She exclaimed, 'no, check in is from 3pm, it'll be another 20 minutes before the rooms are ready, however we can offer you a complimentary breakfast, you shall be put in room 3"..I advised, that check in was 3pm, as stated on my booking. The receptionist stated & I quote..."we have 96 rooms & 4 cleaners in this hotel", her manner remained hostile & bitter. I was there to check in at time allocated, yet the receptionist was trying to justify why I could not be checked in by informing me of things that I should not have been advised of, it was as though the shift of blame was being directed to me. Utterly unacceptable. However,I accepted the breakfast offer & Feeling quite humiliated & eager to see my mother in law, I advised her that I would return later to check in. After being round to sit with my mother in law, I returned to check in and was served by the manager, who had been behind check in when I first arrived. She firstly pointed out that I was advised earlier that check in was 3pm, as I'd arrived too early. I explained, no, I'd arrived 5 mins early, and by time I had spoken to receptionist and she advised the room wasn't ready & wouldn't be ready for another 20 mins, so it was beyond check in time stipulated, 3pm. The manager did not offer any apology, nor sympathetic ear. In my opinion, she was very rude & not at all what I'd expect of someone in authority. I was checked in and went to my room, where I showered & left afterwards to go back my mother in law's. I returned to the hotel later that evening. My room was next to the entry/ exit door to the other rooms, and I was kept from trying to sleep by the constant comings & goings of others. I was hoping to sleep from 9.30pm, as I was shattered, but it was nearer 1am before I eventually slept, only to be woken again from 6am the next morning, by the opening & closing of the door. I shall not be returning to this hotel as I had such a terrible experience.
