Los Ponchos Hotel

This place is wonderful and the staff alone garner five stars. We stayed two nights in a mini cabana and one night in a gallery room (a few days later on our way back to Chile from El Chalten). The food was delicious and presented with so much care and attention to detail. We had dinner one of the evenings and breakfast each morning. Where most places you’d be out of luck, they even accommodated us for breakfast when we had a departure time of 645am! I loved that they take your breakfast order in advance and let you enjoy at your table in the mini-cabin or the gallery facing the pretty and peaceful lawn area (where you can often see different bird species). It’s personalized and such a nice treat. Every detail, even down to the little flowers in the bathroom, shows the effort they put into creating a beautiful, relaxing environment. Some may not love that this place is a bit of a walk from the main drag, but the staff happily and quickly arranged for a taxi whenever we needed, either direction, as they were readily available and responded quickly by WhatsApp. It was nice to have the peace and quiet provided by some distance between the hotel and main tourist area. The only downside I experienced was that the smoke detector in the mini cabana would blink with a bright green light every minute or so. I’m sensitive to light, so it was like a strobe for me, but I eventually fell asleep. My boyfriend didn’t notice it at all. What really stood out for us compared to other accommodations was how friendly, welcoming, and kind the staff are at Los Ponchos. Barbara and Flora went out of their way to ensure our stay was excellent and that we had anything we might need. Definitely stay here if you are in El Calafate!

Kindness, efficiency, and flawless attention to detail are the hallmarks of all the team at Los Ponchos. Our room was spacious, laid out on two floors, and well-furnished and clean, with extensive views over the lake. The food is top quality.

Just a touch of class. Lovely small boutique hotel in El Calafate. Staff are so welcoming and friendly. They couldn't do enough for us, just such a lovely experience. The food was superb. All home cooked fresh and delicious and a view across the lake that made it even more special. Its a little bit away from the centre but we just loved everything about this place. As I said a touch of class.
