We stayed at Los Ponchos during an extended trip to South America. This boutique hotel, situated in a residential area on a hilltop overlooking Lake Argentino, was a welcome respite a short walk out of El Calafate. From the moment we arrived, we were pleasantly overwhelmed by the intimate, culturally interesting decor, the gardens of lavender and local fauna and the down-to-earth, gracious nature of the staff. Flora at the front desk immediately put us at ease on arrival, arranged for our luggage and a welcoming drink, and made dinner reservations for the evening. The king bed was extremely comfortable, with a window view over the Lake. Breakfast was served outside our room, overlooking the garden, the next morning by the lovely and personable Florencia. We so enjoyed our conversations with these two lovely ladies. Our stay for the 2nd night was split by a trip out to Estancia Christina, but was equally great. The best part was that our tired arrival was late in day, and the staff graciously accommodated a late dinner at the hotel. This was again served at a table overlooking the garden. The food was fantastic and fresh, accompanied by a bottle of wine and an excellent Pavlova. We were so grateful for this act - but it is just a small example of the type of professional, personal, attentive and welcoming nature of this establishment. Just stay here - you won't regret it.
