Spent 5 great weeks at Shades on the West Coast. Went with daughter for first 3 weeks, and then moved to larger appartment when joined my the rest of my family. Communication prior to the visit was excellent and our needs were accommodated including ordering a taxi to collect from the airport which was seamless. We received a very warm welcome from hosts Rochelle/John. Shades is a tranquil setting set back from the road a real hidden gem with pool for days you want stay in. It gave me the privacy needed and we felt very safe and cared for. Lovely local beach about 5 minutes walk but buses run frequently at the bottom of the gap to go up to Holetown (where we spent a lot of time) , Speightstown etc or further South to Bridgetown. We ate out a lot too, many local places to eat all delicious. Supermarket was a 5 minute drive or 20 walk away (we walked a few times early in the morning when cooler). Our hosts were attentive and available throughout the visit and surprised me with a lovely card and bubbly for my birthday. I would happily stay here again.

We had a lovely stay at Shades. The apartment was spacious and modern, nice balcony with great view over the pool and beautiful tropical garden. A family business, the host Rochelle was charming and helpful with local information. The location is a good base on the West Coast and the island can easily be explored. Nearest bus stop is 10 mins walk, supermarket 10 mins on bus. Taxis were reliable (about £10 to Holetown).

We recently spent a week at Shades of Barbados, staying in the Penthouse apartment. This is a beautiful little hotel, nestled amongst wonderful greenery, a two minute walk down the road to Paynes Bay Beach (be careful while crossing the road at the bottom of the hotel road. It can get busy. One does not hear this road from the hotel. The beach itself is beautiful and is about 500 m long. We had the privilege of seeing turtles feeding near the beach). We heard and saw many birds from our terrace. We also saw monkeys in the garden. The pool was very nice and refreshing. There is a small gym with free weights and a few machines, which we appreciated. The apartment itself was well stocked, clean and very comfortable as well as beautiful. Rochelle was incredibly attentive and helpful. All in all a wonderful stay. Would highly recommend.

We loved our stay at Shades so much we booked for next year during our stay! Our apartment truly felt like home from home and was well equipped, comfortable, immaculately clean and surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. Rochelle is the perfect host and always at hand if needed which is great. It was lovely to also meet other members of her family during our stay too. Cannot recommend this place enough - it ticked every box for us and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you

The accommodation was lovely and handily located for most of Barbados’ facilities. If you don’t have a car, a 250 metre walk takes you down to the main road where there are frequent buses and taxis available to all destinations. It was reassuring to have our host, Rochelle (not forgetting her lovely little helper and other family helpers) on hand for advice and help.

If you want a tropical oasis on the busy tourist island of Barbados, this is it! I spent a week in this accommodation which was excellent, well-presented. Everything is in close proximity to these apartment including buses to get anywhere on the island. Roxanne is an excellent host just a phone call away and she went above and beyond. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit to Barbados.

Having been to Barbados many times staying at hotels from all inclusive to bed and breakfast we decided to do self catering shades iseverything we were looking for great location in Paynes bay 2 min walk to the beach quite peaceful and very clean we were met by Rochelle on arrival and her beautiful little daughter nothing is too much trouble she keeps checking if we need anything would definitely return again hopefully asap

We're back from another wonderful stay at Shades. A real hidden gem. Rochelle is an excellent host. Beautiful gardens. A short walk down to the beach or to catch a ride on one of the crazy reggae buses up or down the coast! Friendly, relaxed and with everything you need for a perfectly chilled holiday. Thoroughly recommended.
