Selbourne Hotel is a horrible hotel, the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Its only selling point is the wonderful view across the Firth of Clyde. The hotel itself is dirty, smelly, with shabby decor. Run-down and grubby everywhere. It's like something from the 70s. Banisters sticky, haven't seen polish in decades. Carpets are dirty and fraying. Smells of stale cigarette smoke throughout. Exposed wiring on areas of 2nd floor. Lift is not clean. Lighting everywhere is dingy. Badly creaking floorboards throughout. Virtually no disabled facilities. Loads of steps down to the garden. Some steps up and down to rooms even after getting out of the lift. Given this hotel caters mainly for seniors on coach tours that's a very bad show. Room: My room was sold as a 'superior' room. What a joke! Furniture was so old it was falling apart. One tiny wardrobe and chest of drawers with a handle broken off. Power and usb points weren't working. Overbed light did not work. Little evidence of housekeeping. Carpet wasn't hoovered. Just bins emptied and bed made. No toiletries provided. Bath had grubby sealant along the edge to stop the shower screen moving. Patches of mould. Cracked bathroom tiles. Shower temperature impossible to regulate. Room too hot but no air con or even a fan! Food review: Disgusting and revolting. Everything is bought 'on the cheap'. All from tins, packets and freezer. No fresh ingredients used at all. No real cooking involved. Overdone and tasteless. Extremely poor quality, nothing is well presented. Measly portion sizes. Very limited choice. An 'either/or'. If you don't like it no attempt made to offer anything else. Seems they ration everything. Had to take butter etc from neighbouring table when the guests had left. Dining room tables sticky, not cleaned properly. No tablecloths, crockery had food residue. No cups and saucers, chipped mugs with the spoon in. Cutlery was tarnished. Waiting staff do their very best and were always pleasant but too few of them so service is slow and the awful food is made worse by being lukewarm. On a positive note Ben our waiter was friendly and helpful. Also Susan on reception was informative and helpful. The manager though is very rude and officious. A jobsworth with no people skills. Had the temerity to leave a curt note on the tables not to arrive for meals before the allocated time!! No decent establishment allocates timeslots nowadays. Entertainment: Not up to much. Mostly bingo or a mediocre singer miming to backing tracks. Bar: I'm not a big drinker but seemed a reasonable selection and price. Bar staff friendly enough. Lounge: Dreadful. Like a grotty rugby club. All in all a huge disappointment. It's a shame. This hotel should be capitalising on its prime location. It needs millions of pounds spending on it. Employ a younger, forward looking manager with guest welfare at heart. It could be a flagship hotel, instead it's a carbuncle.

Travelled to Dunoon with Gibbons coaches for 5 days from the 4th to the 8th September 24. Arrived at the Selborne hotel very late evening. A lovely welcome from the manager and staff. We were given our keys for room 306. Went up in the lift to our room to the third floor. A lovely twin bed room, very clean, lovely soft carpet, plenty of storage for your clothes, lovely size shower room. Tea coffee supplied, hairdryer available in the room. There was an excellent sea view from our with a beautiful view of the garden. The room was very warm had to open both top windows as the weather was really hot, there was lovely thick curtains hung at the windows. Went down for our meal at 7 pm due to our time of arrival, as the dinner is at 6pm and breakfast at 8am. A wide selection of meals, a choice of starters, the soup is absolutely delicious. All the meals were lovely and tasty. They were all set on the plate, as no self-service bowls at the table as of some places. The breakfast was serve yourself from the table that was set out as you went into the dining room, a choice of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, to take to your table or you could have a full cooked breakfast or anything off the menu that you fancied you could have cereals and cooked breakfast if you wanted. The menu was at the table for the evening meals. Some of the evening meals had to be ordered in the morning at breakfast time but not the starters. The servers would tell you the chefs special when ordering your meal. All the servers were excellent, very polite and friendly, and worked extremely hard. There was entertainment in the evening with bingo, on the Saturday it was a Disc Jockey which you could choose your song of your choice which was a lovely evening. Bar closed at 11 pm. The price of the drinks I found very satisfactory as not a lot of difference in price to what is paid at clubs at home. Staying at the Selborne was really lovely, very friendly, lovely and clean, the decor was really nice, lovely soft carpets throughout. They did have a nice dance floor near the stage. All the seating was comfortable, spotless toilets, there was even hand gel on the handles on the doors in the ladies toilets that would gently seep out when you pulled the door open. It was such a delightful stay, at such a lovely hotel, it's such a shame it went so fast. I absolutely enjoyed it, ☺️

Very friendly staff. We booked this location last minute as we travelled to experience the Cowal Gathering (Highland Games) in Dunoon. Had a fantastic time. Hotel had a great location with walkout to the seawall. Cowal gathering was a great event.

Alfa coach trip. Staff at the hotel were excellent, Nice welcome from Anna. Seaview twin room was clean and bed was comfy. Aaron behind the bar was professional and friendly. Entertainment was good especially kareoke night with Megan keeping us in check and she had a lovely voice. Downside if you're not mobile you need to ask for ground floor room, or easy accessible room, as in our case we had 2 flights of stairs to go up, when we got out of the lift, which was fine for me but not so easy for my mam. Think they also need to look at the "chef" as although the evening menu looked good, the food that came was sadly lacking, and quite often cold. Breakfast- it's a hard job if you can't get eggs right. Saying this I would still do a return visit, as everything else was fine and the surounding area is beautiful, the trips to Bute and Mount Stuart were well worth a visit (an added bonus as we couldn't get to Cumbrae, due to an unavoidable issue with the ferry), Driver Dave was great too, he took us out of his way to get some nice photos....... review would've been a 5⭐️ had the food lived up to expectations

Hotel could do with a complete decoration inside. Although the dining room was kept moderately clean the dado rails had dust and dead insects on them also some of the advertised drinks were not available at the bar. Car parking was minimal especially when tour busses were there.

We came here with KM coaches stayed in a room with fantastic views overlooking the Clyde, yes it could do with some TLC especially the outside seating area down the rear steps very shabby, on a better note the food was nice and so were the excellent staff. The scenery on our day trips was outstanding.

This is a good but dated hotel. My room was fairly quiet with a comfortable bed and amazing views across the Firth of Clyde! We were lucky with the weather! I think I saw a submarine while waiting to cross by Ferry, but it was quite dark! The scenery is captivating and very relaxing!

Good hotel with beautiful views. Food has been very tasty with good variety. Room could do with decorating as it's a bit tired with the wallpaper coming off in places. The bed was comfortable. Will visit again. This is our second visit so is acceptable to us.
