Roe Park Resort

Limavady
We booked this for two nights at the end of our minimoon exploring the Causeway coast - what we were hoping for was a calming spa retreat in a peaceful setting, what we got was more family fun camp, as a result we came away quite downhearted about it, but if you're looking for a family getaway it would be perfect. (I don't think it helped we had stayed in some amazing places in the preceding days, and arriving here didn't compare) On arrival, no staff were around to check us in and we had to wait quite a long time. The greeting we then got was very business-like and grumpy, rather than friendly and welcoming. We had treated ourselves for our minimoon and booked a suite, which was spacious, but felt dated and in need of a serious refresh - in particular the bathroom - and was very hot. There were no nice extras or finishing touches. In the corridors there were kids running around unattended everywhere. We ate in the Coach House Brasserie both nights, we'd describe it as average. Breakfast was served in Courtyard restaurant, and was exactly what you would expect from a hotel breakfast - perfectly acceptable (though some staff were grumpy and rude) Our main reason for staying at the resort was the Spa, we were hoping for a relaxing end to our minimoon. On arrival at the spa things were looking good, while it was smaller than anticipated, we had the place to ourselves (though the steam room was out of action)...turned out that was only because it was lunchtime. It was soon filled with lots of children, again unattended, splashing and screaming and was the complete opposite of relaxing to the point we actually had to get up and leave. We appreciate it may have been the start of the school holidays, and families need to have somewhere to go, particularly in the rain, but if the pool is open to families, it doesn't feel right to be selling it as a spa, it's just a family splash pool. Also worth saying that young kids were using the jacuzzi and sauna without adult supervision which could be very dangerous. Maybe it would be worth having ”family times” and ”adult only times” to help alleviate this? We did end on a mini-high, as we had booked massages - both of our experiences with the treatment rooms/staff were great and we couldn't fault them, so big well done to that team :) Checking out we had a letter under the door advising us to pay on way to breakfast because of how busy it gets, so we did, then when we checked out later (when it was supposedly very busy) there were 4-6 staff behind the desk and not another customer to be seen...odd.
