Fort Pontchartrain Detroit, a Wyndham Hotel

Excellent room and view. Comfortable bed and great size of TV. Loved looking at the night lights along the river and watching boats cruise up the river. Front desk staff was courteous and friendly. Nice hotel bonus had hit dogs and drinks for tiger opening day.

The view from the standard room is still magnificent. You can see the river and the centre of Detroit. The bed is very comfortable and there a bath tub!

I've been on the road a lot the last few months. So my latest venture into the "D" might very well take me into the "Red Zone" but I rest my head far from it. I had stayed here some months ago and felt good about staying here again and this was a wonderful experience. My 12th floor 'corner' room looked south across the Detroit River into Canada. The property is very well maintained and the staff is top notch. I didn't get to the breakfast buffet this time around, places to go, but it is still offered. Portico right off the lobby makes an easy pickup for car service or limo. Clean, comfortable room with decent television options which I never watch.

Great stay. The staff from the counter staff to the valets were super helpful and courteous. The room was great; the bed was very comfortable, and the pillows were also great. Worked out great for our cruise on the Detroit Princess since it's practically across the street. The valet parking was a little steep but the room view made up for it.

Location is conveniently near downtown attractions. Have to commend the friendly staff! The lobby is very inviting, but overall, the atmosphere is dated. My room was fairly clean, except for the crew socks stuffed in a cubby the last guest left behind. The river view is great, and the bed was comfortable, but a mixed experience. Room prices were also fairly high for what you get.

The hotel checking staff were very professional and courteous, but the accommodations were not ideal. I get that this is a business and there is money to be made but, "hot" breakfast being $19? Then when I asked about it the staff said, well sometimes it's free, just depends on the day. That sounds shady. What was the deal that made us have to pay? The bathroom tub was stopped up; my guest and I had to draw straws to decide who would go 1st in the shower because the other had to stand in the dirty water to shower. Then there is the parking, they only offer $45/day valet parking, with no option for self-park unless you wanted to park in an outside lot downtown Detroit with no protection. Again, that sounds shady. Last rant is the people that cleans the rooms. I clearly had a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the doorknob, but it didn't stop the room cleaners from knocking, attempting to unlock the door & coming in the room with us still in bed, & check out wasn't scheduled until the next day. Again, that sounds shady. Overall, just not a good experience with this hotel.
