Hill View House Bed & Breakfast

First of all, the hotel itself is a little uphill walk (not far) from the town centre. My wife and I are both approaching 60 and found it very easy. We were on the top floor (no lift) in a lovely room and the comfiest twin beds we have ever slept on. Jonathan (the host) rang us soon after booking to make sure all our needs were met. He also rang again on the day of arrival to offer help should we need it. Parking is limited at the hotel, however Jonathan knew of some local residential parking where not only could we park, but he then collected us from our car, took us back to the hotel via a quick tour of Dartmouth pointing out some great spots to watch the world go by and the best places for food, pubs and coffee. Helped us immensely. I can not recommend Dartmouth, Jonathan or his hotel, highly enough and can’t wait to go back. Well done sir 👏

Perfect host Dear Jonathan. Thank you for being the perfect host. We enjoyed our stay at Hill View only 5 min. from the town center. Main drawback was parking which was some distance so no quick access to car for forgotten items. To be fair, proprietor provided a free personal taxi service on arrival and departure. Breakfast a bit quirky.

Our second stay here and would highly recommend. Very clean and comfortable, excellent fresh fruit salad option at breakfast. Jonathan is a very friendly and helpful host.

I picked Hill view house for a night away with my partner and I am so glad that I did. We had such a warm welcome from Jonathan the owner of Hill View House. Jonathan was able to recommend somewhere to eat in the town and even gave us a lift into town. Our room was beautiful an so well designed and decorated, it was extremly clean and cosy. There was plenty of tea and coffee in the room. The breakfast was simply amazing and plentiful served by Jonathan. If you are looking for a place to stay in Dartmouth I can't recommend Hill View House enough. If you stay here you won't regret it.

We can only echo the positive feedback given to TripAdvisor by other guests; Jonathan’s exemplary hospitality, the home made granola, the Art Deco theme and overall cleanliness are endorsed absolutely. In booking through an intermediary web site we were not aware of the breakfast arrangements. We had our hearts set on a full English breakfast in the morning - not a continental breakfast. We can’t deduct a star for that really, but in our defence the “B&B’s” we are used to usually offer a fry-up so bear this in mind. What is preventing the fifth star (in our humble opinion) is the sash windows. I opened mine which opened fully and freely. So what I hear you ask? Well, the cill height is low, the windows are tall and I found myself looking down on a 50ft sheer drop. Vertigo hit in immediately. Most hotels these days have safety limiters on opening windows. I closed the window at bedtime lest I took a wrong turn in the dead of the night. The only other minor thing to mention (and only because it is mentioned as a positive feature on the web site) is that the TV screens are the same size as my iPad. Please do not let the continental breakfast, the tiny TV thing and the huge opening window spoil our review. The granola and fruit is better for you than a fry-up, too much TV is bad for your eyesight, and apparently sky-diving is exhilarating. Hill View House and Jonathan deserve at least 4 healthy stars and we would recommend it on balance.
