The Grey Horse

Rooms above a busy pub. Pleasant staff. Room very small for a double (Room 2). Clean, decent shower. However absolutely terrible mattress, subsequently we both suffered a very uncomfortable night and checked out after first night as we just couldn’t face a second night.

Where to start? Shower screen defective, shower defective. (Have read on an earlier review that this was the case some time ago and no repairs have been made). TV broken, so there was nothing to mask the noise from the bar. Worst of all, we slept on top of the bed because the sheets were stained. They had clearly not been changed since the last occupants. Would not return and strongly advise you don’t go there either!

There was a disco playing loudly directly beneath the bedroom. The pub was virtually empty so there was no need for it. This wasn't advised when booking and my guest refused to stay there. The TV wasn't working in the room and there were no breakfast facilities. It is described as a B&B!

Was away with friends for a weekend in Darlington so we booked 2 double rooms. Rooms above a pub that on the photos looked pleasant and clean but appearances were deceptive. Room 2 our friends stayed in, broken curtain pole, stains against the wall, uncomfortable bed and shower was cold! Room 6, bed uncomfortable and again another cold shower. Left both showers running for 5 minutes and no change! The carpets in the hallway are a trip hazard. Worst of all there the door into the bar was locked and the exit door was locked and we didn't have a key and had to wait until the manager turned up at 9.30am to let us out! What if we needed to leave early?? Fire hazard as well. When we raised all our concerns to the manager he really wasn't interested and didn't offer any apologies. He simply didn't care!! Will book into a Premier Inn next time.

Stayed for one night. Had a room directly above the dart board, pool table and could hear music until late in the night. Walls are pretty thin so could hear the people in the room next to me and opposite. Could hear everyone who came onto the floor of the rooms. Friendly staff and pretty basic room. Had no curtain as it was broken but had blinds. Bathrooms could be updated.

Grey horse darlington very best pub in darlington i stayed the night beautiful rooms very clean so quiet lovely shower ect ,i ll always stay here loads better than premier inn and loads cheaper I ve been in just about every pub in darlington but the grey horse is by very far the best pub in darlington wayne nice lad owner and deanna well she is so funny lovely welcome personallity and down to earth and everyone is friendly nice beer beautiful very very clean pub family pub kids sports bar lads pool table brand new bandits darts ect and big inside beautiful patio doors to sitting area outside and car park deanna is bloody funny great lass good at her job too. Live entertainment which wayne sorted last min as let down and hustle food bloody gorgeous different and beautiful chilli hotdog steak ect gorgeous matthew and elise are great what a fab day and night i had too many pints so bit rough today 🤣🤣 wayne you done great job lovely pub lovely staff and cleaners as place is spotless i ll be back good few timds a year i go darlington as best mate lives there thank you graeme lesner 👍👍👍👍👍
