My wife and I are just back from a one night stay on Easter Sunday. From check in to departure we had a very pleasant stay here. The stand out feature of this hotel is the staff. From reception, to food and beverage, tho house keeping all staff we met were very good at their jobs and very pleasant too. They are a credit to the hotel. We arrrived early on Sunday afternoon where our room was ready and we were able to check in. We stayed in 302 which is located a short walk from the main building in what was the estate manager's building known as the eastern range. Very spacious room comprising a double and single bed, ensuite with shower over bath, air conditioning, plenty of storage space, decent WiFi coverage plus TV and tea/coffee making facilities. The beds themselves were very comfortable and due to it's location, I supect, it was very quite with no distractions. I watched a GAA match on the only public TV that I could find, which was located in the cocktail bar, where I had a couple of pint of guinness that were both reasonably priced and of good quality. My wife joined me later after exploring the grounds of the castle which were extensive. The weather wasn't the best so her exploring was cut short y heavy showers. Fortunatley we had booked a table for food as between guests staying overnight and those for Sunday lunch, the hotel was at capacity. We were seated at a table in the baronial hall. Food, drink and service was very good. We especially liked the assiette á desert! We returned to the cocktail bar for post dinner drinks. We had seats there and enjoyed people watching and the staff busy at work. The following morning we had breakfast in the Sandstone restaurant. What a beautiful room. Breakast, hot or cold, is served to you after ordering from a menu. No reference to cereals, fruits, etc. on the menu but these are available. Just ask. I had a full Irish while my wife had the scrambled egg. Fresh orange or apple juice followed by an americano each after our breakfast. It was a meal that set us up for the day! We walked the grounds including a visit to the walled garden which is a must if you're there. Fortunately the rain kept off for the morning.
