ITC Ratnadpia has a lot going for it, but my stay was a mix of great moments and oversights. The Good The Sky Bridge Lounge is a standout. I loved the no-children policy and the enforced dress code. It's rare to find a lounge that keeps things sophisticated. The weekend live band was a nice surprise and pretty good, though they could lean into more upbeat music. The lounge’s setup is too fantastic to stick with slow songs all night. On our last night, when they picked up the pace, the vibe transformed. People were chair dancing, singing, and mingling. It felt alive, the way it should. A special shoutout to Hasitha, whose local tips and friendly service made our trip to Sri Lanka much smoother. The design of the hotel is beautiful. From the impressive lobby to the unique common spaces, it’s clear a lot of thought went into the aesthetics. Rooms with lake or sea views are a treat if you’re lucky enough to get one. The breakfast buffet was solid, with plenty of options, and the on-site Chinese restaurant exceeded expectations. Good food, fair pricing, and a large menu (though it really needs page numbers). The staff we did engage with were friendly and genuinely kind. The Not-So-Good (the growing pains) Cleanliness was not up to par. Crumbs on seats and couches in both lounges and uncleared tables at the breakfast buffet. It just didn’t feel like a luxury hotel. Sky bridge lounge buffet needs supervision as one incident was especially off-putting. I saw a guest after dining half their plate at their table put some food back onto the common serving platter. I was done after that. Service was inconsistent, particularly in the lobby lounge. I stayed there for hours without being approached, even as other guests were attended to almost immediately. It felt like attention depended on who you were. The Ugly The rooms were the most disappointing part of the stay. At first, everything looks sleek. modern, and new... until your eyes adjust. For a hotel that opened in April, the level of wear and tear was shocking. Both rooms we stayed in had significant mildew and grime in the showers, water seeping through tiles outside the shower, rust-stained balconies, and poorly finished surfaces (scratched marble, paint on wood, etc). This place is going to have significant water issues. The mattress was rock-hard. If you’re a side sleeper, prepare for a sore shoulder. These aren’t the details you’d expect from an ITC property, and they really undermine the otherwise luxurious feel of the hotel. Overall ITC Ratnadpia has the potential to be a fantastic destination. The design is stunning, the lounge is a real highlight, and the pricing feels fair for what’s on offer, but this place feels like it was rushed to open and missing the precision associated with the ITC brand.
