Firefly Boutique Lodge

Beautiful authentic place with a great vibe. The staff is great and the atmosphere really cool. The garden, the music played, the food served, the house cats, everything was nice and real. For people looking for "off the beaten tracks" stays.

Our family of 4 needed some rest and relaxation and the Firefly was the perfect place. Life at the Firefly centers around the gorgeous pool. The upstairs rooms are lovely. Happiness, the manager, did everything to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was excellent. We spent 5 nights in Bagamoyo and loved learning about the history and seeing everyone in town strolling the beach in the evening or out to see live music at Poa Poa on Tuesday evenings. Firefly does not have beach access, but you can walk a couple of blocks to the beach. If I had one wish it would be for Firefly to upgrade windows and towels (pool towels would have been amazing!) but otherwise, it was truly magical.

A nice place with a very pleasant atmosphere. The outdoor place is very scenic with nice places to sit or lounge and a pool. Some review mention a staff that seemed like being "interrupted" by the guests, but we saw the staff as very helpful and waiting for your service request. They're not "in your face" but still there, in the background, to serve you with information or food/drinks. The food served is simple and at the same time tasty. Our room was very nicely decorated. The entire building was created from previous ruins which gives a special feeling to it. All the windows have bars, but can still be opened for fresh air. Owner Jo was very helpful in providing contacts for next stops on our trip. As for the covid-related questions I have to answer in this review: Staff and guests are very relaxed towards covid-measures (which are anti-scientific and unnecessary anyway). So, when we return by the end of the year we will probably visit Firefly again.

Again the Firefly team welcomed us with great service! The rooms are comfortable, spacious and refreshingly simple. The ambience is zen, yet invigorating. The pool side area is the best, little quiet corners or group tables, you have the choice. The food is always good and different. It is also the people who make this place unique: home away from home. Such a great team. We were 26 people and they managed to deliver once again! Thank you!

Firefly Lodge is a place you should definitely go to when in Bagamoyo. The people there are lovely, the vibe is so relaxed and the place looks amazing. Can't get over the room we've had there. Also the food they serve here is great! We recommend this place for sure. And don't forget to go to the museum of slavery.

We felt like we were interrupting the staff when we arrived - we were not made to feel welcome at all. The pool area is the only nice thing about this hotel. The room we had felt like a cell overlooking a filthy smelly open piece of property next door. The food was very average and the "service" was incredibly slow.
