Red Lion Hotel

Although located at the bottom of the steepest hill in Christendom (or so it seems after a long walk), this is an absolute gem. The staff are friendly, the room was extremely comfortable and the restaurant was a delight. Fine dining was not what I had expected on arrival. Breakfast was fab, too. You don't have to walk there, the hotel has its own car parking. Highly recommended.

Came here to celebrate our anniversary and absolutely loved it. We were in room 5 which is exquisitely decorated and has a balcony with incredible views out to sea. The food in the restaurant was superb, all made with local produce. What made the stay extra special was the team. Everyone we met was really friendly and helpful. Big shout out to Rich and Jo who made our stay extra special. We will definitely be back.

This is a lovely pub/Hotel. Beautiful location, great food and local cider and the staff were absolutely amazing. We had a lovely meal and were looked after by very friendly staff who kept us entertained. The location is so peaceful so sitting outside enjoying the views with a drink is wonderful.

If we had to choose one word to describe The Red Lion it would be brilliant. The staff were all helpful and friendly. The room was excellent, quiet, clean and lacked for nothing . The food was first class .

Lovely old pub and hotel literally slap bang on Clovelly quay. Visited on a Wednesday and arrived relatively early for lunch and a drink. Minimal menu but food good and location sat outside fabulous - obviously a hard place to reach at bottom of very steep walk down cobbled path from entrance to village - don’t wear sliders or flip flops !!

Our experience was limited so that should be borne in mind when reading this review. We had lunch at a delightful little cafe halfway down the hill which served local lobster and crab. It was a super lunch but because they were not licensed in accordance with UK regulations, we had not had a glass of wine. We called in at the bar of the Red Lion for this. The wine was served in PLASTIC CUPS, (politeness restrains me), the seats were not clean, and there was litter on the floor, including nail clippings. At least the bar staff were helpful and friendly, so I will give 2 stars for that.
