This is quite the best hotel-adjacent experience the Azores has to offer, and you won't regret trying it. The individual cabins each offer an escape to the trees, and the sights and sounds of the forest are really something to wake up to. There are a few design quirks, most notably the lack of a bathroom door, but if you travel with a partner with sensitive ears there is always time to admire the view from the balcony. Breakfasts are faultless - seriously, you've never seen such a spread - and if you're getting up early to go whale-watching they'll deliver a pre-packed version to your treehouse fridge the night before. The staff know all there is to know about the island, and although you will certainly need a car (not too wide in the chassis, preferably) they can show you where to drive it for the best views. A daily dip in the salt-water pool seals the deal. Book it now before it becomes impossible to get a reservation!

During my 2-week trip around Portugal, Quinta do Espirito Santo is the most favorite. It is not only just a place for a stay but a place providing an authentic experience with the stories of Terceira Island. I stayed 2 memorable days here with Francisco -the owner who is also a very knowledgeable history teacher and museum director, and his wife, just like one of their family members. The manor itself (including the hotel's main buildings, subordinate houses, and a lovely tropical garden) is a mirror of the island's background, speaking to the maritime history and the special geographical position of this island. All the furniture and decorations have their own stories and histories. The host couple is very friendly, helpful, and talkative, and we always had very interesting talks. The rooms are very clean and atmosphere. This is a unique oasis of Terceira and Azores which makes a trip very unusual.

Molto bello, nuovo bene cura, colazione con succo arancione naturale

Albergo in stile moderno, sul mare, vicino ad una delle “spiagge artificiali” di Angra. Tutte le camere dispongono di vista mare. Quelle al secondo piano, sono delle suite: appena varcata la soglia della stanza, si accede al salottino e ad un bagno. La camera da letto ed un secondo bagno sono raggiungibili da scala interna. Quattro armadi con cassetti, comodini, e numerosi piani di appoggio accolgono i propri effetti personali. Letti ampi, comodi, e con materassi ergonomicamente rigidi. Poche prese a muro per ricaricare, contemporaneamente, telefoni mobili e p.c. od altri dispositivi elettronici. Rete Wifi gratuita a disposizione degli ospiti, ma priva di password di sicurezza. Balconcini ampi, dai quali si gode la vista del mare che si infrange sugli scogli: peccato per i numerosi piccioni che imperversano sul tetto dell’edificio e sui divisori tra il balcone di una camera e quello dell’altra. Ben illuminata la stanza. Moquette sul pavimento, non ovunque perfettamente pulita; d’altro canto, una camera a due piani richiede una fatica ed una quantità di tempo che mal si coniugano con un’attenzione ad ogni singolo dettaglio. L’albergo dispone di una piscina interna e di un’ampia palestra, oltre a due piscine esterne e ad un accesso diretto al mare. L’albergo offre ai propri clienti anche parcheggio coperto gratuito per le autovetture (due piani sotterranei, ai quali si accede direttamente con la chiave della stanza, e con ascensore al piano). Alla reception, la Sig.a Carla Fonseca brilla per discrezione, efficienza e professionalità, unita ad un sorriso che non manca mai. Tutto il personale di reception è comunque cortese, e parla anche inglese. Personale di sala attento, così come lo Chef che spesso esce dal proprio regno per verificare quali pietanze manchino nel buffet. Ampia e luminosa la sala comune. Al termine della cena, le bevande consumate devono essere “dichiarate” per il carico sulla camera, oppure per il pagamento diretto. La struttura dell’albergo avrebbe bisogno di una notevole manutenzione: molte parti delle strutture metalliche che fanno parte della facciata, mostrano ampie zone di ruggine. Nei corridoi che conducono alle camere, i punti di congiunzione tra una pezza e la successiva risultano sfilacciati e con ampie fughe. E’ un peccato vedere che la struttura non è curata come meriterebbe, perchè l’arredamento sia delle stanze che della sala è solido e di qualità. Allo stesso modo, la posizione rispetto al centro di Angra (che può essere raggiunto a piedi in 20 minuti circa) e la vista del mare, rendono questa struttura un ottimo punto di riferimento per chi desidera visitare Terceira. Nel complesso, un albergo nel quale ci siamo trovati molto bene e che consigliamo.

Nice, modern hotel, and we had a very nice updated room with lovely views of the ocean and the Fort. Pretty good breakfast too. Free parking so you can walk about 10 minutes to get to the heart of the old town for shopping and restaurants. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The only very small thing we didn’t love was that to get to our room on the 3rd floor we had to walk by the open door of the gym - typical gym smells emanating so wish they would have left the door to the gym closed. Other than that, a great stay!
