We stayed here for five nights with a Great Rail Journeys group trip to the Isle of Man. We upgraded to a Business Club Promenade room in our initial booking. Our room was spacious and the main room area was well laid out with a nice seating area in the bay window overlooking the promenade and sea. There was good storage plus a kettle, nespresso machine, fridge and a selection of hot drinks, still and sparkling water (in glass bottles) and biscuits, which were replenished daily. The fridge wasn’t working to start with but we reported it and it was sorted out. Dressing gowns and slippers were provided. There was a safe, iron and ironing board. The lighting was very good! The bed was ok once you got used to the thick memory foam only mattress and soft pillows - we found a spare pillow in the wardrobe which helped my husband. Being memory foam, the mattress was quite warm to sleep on. The bathroom was enormous with a separate bath, large walk-in shower (which was very good indeed) and twin sinks. It did look a bit tired, especially compared with the main part of the room. Two bathroom ******* : the single non-heated towel rail was too small for the towels so you had no choice but to put them over the bath to dry, which then meant they inevitably got changed - not good. Also the provided toiletries were in tiny single use plastic bottles which really isn’t acceptable now. Two room *******: the room was very hot and stuffy most of the time we were there, so we had to have the windows open and fan on all night. The windows opened too little to have much cooling effect because the top parts didn’t open and the bottoms were of course on limiters. The windows being open meant that the room was very noisy, as the promenade road seems to be one of the main roads in Douglas. But even on the last night, with windows shut due to a storm, it turned out still to be noisy. Our holiday was half board so we ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel every day. Breakfasts were very good with a decent range of options, cold as a buffet and hot plus hot drinks as waited service. Apparently the scrambled eggs were not good at all, but the poached were nice and the smashed avocado on toast with egg was excellent! Dinners were good and well varied over our five day trip, but they weren’t exceptional. The hotel is only a very short walk from the sea terminal, bus station and main shopping street. There is a bus stop about a minute’s walk away which takes you to the Manx Electric Railway station in a few minutes; the steam railway station is about 10 minutes’ walk away. Would I stay here again? Yes, but I would ask for a room at the back!

Wow, che posso dire! Abbiamo riuscito a prenotare l'Hotel Halvard l'ultimo minuto dopo essere stati davvero delusi dallo stato di uno dei grandi hotel vicini che avevamo prenotato per un soggiorno di quattro notti. L'arrivo all'Hotel Halvard ci ha condotto un caloroso benvenuto da Lucas, che ci ha resi così confortevole dopo un arrivo piuttosto stressante all'isola. Poiché l’hotel era così sorprendente, la mattina seguente, abbiamo parlato con Pete alla ricezione, che andò di sopra e di là per organizzare un altro posto per noi, perché la stanza che stiamo facendo era in piena prenotazione. Pete ci ha offerto un fantastico prezzo nella stanza, che includeva colazione, e siamo stati davvero, davvero fortunati che avessero la disponibilità. Le camere sono davvero fuori dal mondo! Altissima qualità, grandi, spaziose camere che sono pulite in modo immacolato in tutto. Struttura di vista incredibile che guarda la passeggiata. Bevande e snacks complimentari che sono riforniti quotidianamente. Il ristorante è un ristorante fantastico e piccolo che serve una vasta gamma di bellissimi colazione, tra cui colazione continentale e colazione cucinata. Il ristorante è anche aperto al pubblico per deliziosi pasti di sera, ma consiglia di prenotare in anticipo. L'hotel è perfettamente situato lungo il promenad, che è molto centrale per tutte le strutture. Diamo all'hotel un 10/10. È certamente uno dei migliori sull'isola, se non il migliore, ma ciò che lo rende più speciale è il personale. Tutti erano così amichevoli e utili, e ci sentivamo come se li conoscessimo per sempre. Non c'era nulla di troppo disturbo e si allontanarono dal loro modo per assicurarsi che il vostro soggiorno fosse il migliore possibile. Infatti, dare loro una chiamata quando prenotano perché offrono molto meglio di quello che è disponibile online. Grazie tante Lucas, Pete e tutti i membri del personale dell'Hotel Halvard, non possiamo aspettare di tornare!!

Lovely hotel, ideally placed for the city centre, Villa Marina, Gaiety Theatre, horse drawn tram and the electric railway. We stayed in a 4th floor room overlooking the Broadway with a partial view of the sea and could see the coming & goings in the Ferry Port. It was spacious and had everything we could need. Toiletries, hairdryer, safe, iron & ironing board, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water and a fridge as well as a charging port and more electric sockets than I have ever come across. The breakfast was a lovely cooked buffet, along with continental, cereals, juice, yoghurts, fruit. We only had 1 evening meal, but it was lovely and the chef changed the rice for potatoes & veg for me. Gorgeous desserts. Staff were all pleasant but we especially liked the housekeeper and exchanged a few words with her every day on our way to or from breakfast. If we were to travel to the IOM again, we would definitely stay at the Mannin.....just hope for better weather :)
