I booked a suite 7 months ahead as part of a bigger trip yet when we arrived we were given a family suite instead of the more comfortable and well appointed suites. I had confirmed my booking a week in advance yet the superior accommodation was given to another guest who had booked only a week ahead. The suite was gloomy, with stark spotlights, no lamps, no soft furnishings and no pictures on the wall. To access it from the 6th floor you need to lug your luggage up three more short flights of stairs with dirty carpets, chipped paint and dusty plastic plants in pots. The bed was thankfully comfortable but the light switches turned off all the power intermittently. Needless to say the concierge was young and inexperienced and clearly had no idea how to respond to any of our polite requests to have the room we’d booked. Dinner in the hotel was average. Again no atmosphere, overhead lights, rushed service, a long wait (20 minutes) to get a drink or any water and the food on the evening fixed price menu was very uninspiring. Breakfast was ok. We came at 09.00 and much had run out and wasn’t replenished and there was no hot water for tea. Altogether a disappointing stay. The castle setting should be spectacular but it just isn’t. Whoever runs the hotel depends on the notion of it being exciting to stay in such an historic building without bothering with any of the comforts or touches the price tag should include.

Old but well-maintained hotel steps from the Sedan Castle. Well appointed rooms, clean inside, excellent service. Those arriving by car could go directly to the nearby Place du Chateau public parking (free), 30 meters away from the hotel. Those arriving by bicycle can park it in the hotel's secured patio. The owner/manager was very personable and eager to assist. There is an on-site restaurant. We did not try it because it was closed when we arrived, but the owner recommended the grill/pizzeria next door and it was very good. Breakfast is available for a reasonable fee and it was a copious french breakfast buffet with ham, cheeses, eggs, dairy, croissants, etc. We had a family room at the top floor with space for 2 children and a crib. The kids enjoyed staying in the mezzanine. The bathroom was spacious by French standard and it had a 110/230V multi-format plug. Given the excellent location, condition of the hotel, value, and great personality of the owner, we rate this a 5.

Quand je suis arrivé, le réceptionnaire empestait la cigarette au point que j'ai du reculer tellement l'odeur m'incommodait, il y avait normalement un service de restauration de prévue le vendredi soir, mais le cuisinier était absent, donc pas de restauration possible sur place. Pas de restauration possible le week end en dehors des petits déjeuner. Le sèche cheveux souffle uniquement de l'air froid. Et un jour, ménage pas fait dans la chambre, quand j'ai contacté l'accueil à 19 heure (heure à laquelle je suis rentrée à la chambre), le réceptionnaire m'a dit je suis seul, je ne peux pas venir. Donc j'ai du me débrouiller, refaire le lit moi même, nettoyer comme j'ai pu la salle de bain. On ne m'a proposé aucune compensation par rapport à ce désagrément, je vais donc contacter le service client.
