I loved the Ivanhoe Punthill Apartments. The staff were friendly & always helpful - were able to give great tips and advice and any question I had regarding my stay they answered and helped with promptly. I loved it so much for my short 1 week stay, I rebooked my next 4 week stay. For a longer stay they put me on the floor with other longer stays so guests had minimal transfer of people on one floor. The apartment building itself was extremely safe in regards to locked floors and building access being locked when reception was not covered. There was reception from 7am to 8pm - so I felt extremely safe. They are also pet friendly, I had my cat stay & my dog - which the staff were awesome with and loved petting or doing an extra clean if I requested it (no extra cost!) The location is brilliant- so close to Heidelberg train station (legitimately 10 mins walk) and had plenty of shops nearby. To get into the city via an uber is 15-20 mins! The rooms and facilities were clean, simple to use & accessible. Internet access was also amazing.I loved the Ivanhoe Punthill Apartments. The Safari in the City was recently renovated in 2024, making it a fantastic choice for those staying in Kew. With Auburn Station just 3km away and Essendon Airport only 24km away, transportation is very convenient. Famous local attractions Garden Gallery Kew, Rathmines Road Reserve and Anytime Fitness Kew, can all be reached with a short walk. After a long day of sightseeing, guests can retire to the comfort of the hotel. This Kew hotel features parking on site.
Wow, how sad. I had previously stayed at this motel, and it was exceptional value for money. How things change. I'm in Melbourne due to my daughter being in the Austin Hospital. I am currently on crutches following knee surgery. On arrival, I found a park (no disabled parking), I checked in as i was aware you could not check in past 7pm, was given a key and directions that my room was down the hall, l put my stuff in the room, and went straight to the hospital, arriving back at 8pm. Arrived to find no towels or facewashers in my room, just 2 bath mats. There were no instructions on how anything worked. There is no reception to get towels. Just a bed, shower, microwave, dunny, and kettle. Next morning, I had to leave early at 8am. Again, there is no reception. Left a note advising that there were no towels, facewashers, etc, in the room and requesting the password for the WiFi. Got back again at 8pm to the ROOM TOTALLY UNTOUCHED, NOT CLEANED, NO TOWELS, NO BED MADE NOTHING! And NO RECEPTION to have anything changed. Again, I have to use a bathmat after a shower. This morning, I go to check out at 8am NO RECEPTION! At 8.15, reception opens, l advise the young lady of my experience to which she apologised. All in all, if you are after a bed (hard as a rock), a shower with no towels, noisy air-conditioning, a toilet, kettle, microwave, instant coffee and tea, cup, and teaspoon, are used to lots of road noise, like to be woken in the middle of the night by other guests talking in the corridor, not in need of a disabled park, can handle stairs, have no instructions on how to use anything, have hidden light switches, have very unkempt outside areas, then the Bell Motel is for you. This is just really sad. Be aware. Ps. On the morning of check out, whilst waiting for the 8am reception to arrive at 8.15, I noticed a QR code on the back of the key. When scanned, this opens a compendium that does have the WiFi password. It also states that the room will be cleaned and replenished daily. It also has a range of terms and conditions that the booking website did not have. I really hope that this place can return to what it was last time I visited, reception that was available during the advertised hours, information on how to get things out of hours (such as towels), the basic breaky which was excellent, comfortable beds, rooms cleaned as expected and...towels. Best of luck when booking.

My wife and I operate a small coach tour company, and have done so for the last 28 years. We offer residents of Sydney, the Central Coast, the Southern Highlands, Canberra and Queanbeyan, the opportunity to travel on a variety of tours, ranging from four days to ten days in length, to different areas in Eastern Australia. Last week, a group of our passengers from these areas travelled on a seven-day tour to Victoria. During the tour, our passengers stayed for four nights at the Novotel Melbourne Preston. We certainly have no complaints or regrets about using this Hotel for our group’s stay! When I first contacted the Hotel in September 2023, about the possibility of using it for my tour group’s accommodation for this tour, my enquiry was treated with genuine enthusiasm. I was put through to the Sales Manager, Ms Michele Kerrigan. Michele was amazing to deal with. After a steady stream of telephone conversations and emails during the next few days, the accommodation was booked, and the menus for all the dinners during this stay were locked in. At some hotels we’ve used over the years, this process can take weeks, and it can be quite a frustrating experience. At this Hotel, it was the exact opposite. So, a huge ‘thank you’ to Michele, for making this all so easy for us as tour organisers! After all the arrangements we finalised, and the booking was locked in, Michele passed on our booking to the Sales Coordinator, Annalise Dimase. Once again, Annalise was an absolute delight to work with! Between the finalisation of the booking, and the date of the group’s arrival, we spoke many, many times on the phone, and exchanged many, many emails. In all my dealings with Annalise, she was professional, personable, helpful, patient, and attentive. On a few occasions, when Annalise was unavailable, I was transferred to Nada, another member of the Sales Team. Again, Nada was wonderful to work with. When our tour group arrived at the hotel, Michele, Nada, and Annalise were all there to greet the passengers. They were very impressed by the warm and friendly welcome offered to them by this team! Once inside the Hotel, this level of service was experienced in all sections. The reception staff, the housekeeping staff, the restaurant staff, the chef and kitchen staff were all friendly, welcoming, obliging, and helpful. We would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to any tour groups requiring accommodation in Melbourne. Judging by our experience, it would be difficult to surpass the level of attentiveness and friendliness offered by the management team and staff, the quality of service, the degree of comfort, and the attention to detail our group received during their stay. Thank you to all the team at the Novotel Melbourne Preston! We’ll be back!
Let’s start with undisclosed surcharges, followed by unauthorised charges to credit card (twice) moving on to the receptionist on arrival….then the only access to any floor being very steep stairs (about 210mm risers and 250mm goings) - try lugging a suitcase up to the top floor (no elevator)…I walked into room to be greeted by a horrid smell, the bathroom is a combined shower and toilet at 98cm wide and 245cm long with frosted glass sliding door/wall that you can see colours and shapes through - no privacy and being so small water everywhere (no extraction fan so dripping, fogged up mirror as well). Advertised “garden view” is a construction site right next door about 5m away, combined with construction noise and workers speaking loudly in not-English from 6am every morning (except Sunday). I accept that MVV can’t control there is a construction site - but there’s no garden view. As much as I look there is not a single bit of green or even dirt to be seen do I don’t know where this garden view is… I was travelling with my 12 year old so had the room with fold out couch - which did fold out but no linen provided - thankfully I thought to throw a sleeping bag, pillow and some towels in the car before coming down - they were all most definitely needed. The fold out couch was hard, broken and couldn’t be slept on as it was just too uncomfortable. The water in the shower has a 10cm diameter span - you need to keep spinning around to get front and back wet. It is consistently hot though. Move on to day 5 of a 9 day stay and the manager knocks on my door saying they need 5 hours access to my room to replace the air con that is leaking (ahhh so that’s the gross smell - sopping wet walls and carpet that have been wet a very long time). I said “no I don’t want anyone into the room I am paying for my access to” and I was told I am unreasonable and to leave the next day. One minute after I called Consumer Affairs/VCAT the manager knocks and says “you stay I rescheduled” - when 5 min earlier he told me it could not be rescheduled and I was unreasonable. I do wonder why one minute after I mention VCAT (in the closed room) he changed his mind… Partway through our stay the access to the building and carpark was changed from card access to a PIN - as a guest we were not notified of the PIN to be able to actually access the building. The first night of the new system there was a handwritten note with the PIN on it - thankfully we remembered because the next day the note was gone and still 3 days later we hadn’t been notified on the PIN to be able to access the carpark or even building after hours. Also - the room is not made up daily like a normal motel, you are given one bath towel that is to last your entire stay. I had to also not only clean the room on leaving but empty the rubbish bin downstairs in the outside hopper. For the amount of money paid for this place I am totally gobsmacked at this. On my last day I stripped the bed to find 3 bottom sheets
