I booked a room at this budget accommodation near Chiusi train station, hoping that it would be convenient for visiting Montepulciano. It was a mistake I lived to regret. When I made the reservation many months in advance, I asked for a quiet room on an upper floor. I was given a room on the 1st floor next to the staircase which everyone takes, hence the noisiest. I arrived in the late afternoon (checkin is only after 3PM) and had to stand in the pouring rain because the door was locked. Only after repeatedly ringing the bell, an octogenarian woman appeared (the owner), who had absolutely no idea about my reservation. She had to phone the receptionist/cameriere who arrived in haste to process my checkin, fumbling, and completely unprepared/untrained. Nobody could help with any information on how to take the bus to Montepulciano, despite the fact that Chiusi is just a gateway to Montepulciano, and La Rosetta is just 3 minutes to the bus. Communication was difficult because despite being in the hotel business, the staff doesn't speak any foreign language, and my Italian is limited. The room has only 1 electric plug available, far from the table where the kettle was, so I had to precariously place the kettle on a shelf in order to use it. At 2:00AM, the TV - which was on standby- started emitting an alarm, waking me up to some sort of emergency broadcasting test. The breakfast, from 7:30-9:00AM, is extremely poor and not worth waking up for. Coffee is not on offer; I had to ask for it, and got a thimble. On my last day, as I was sitting at breakfast, the owner's son slammed down a receipt on the table, curtly demanding "2 euro cash". Other than these 3 words, he didn't say anything else to me, no "Ciao, sono Claudio", nor "How was your stay with us?". No "prego" or "grazie". Minutes after my rating La Rosetta 3-stars out of 5, I received a text from Claudio with the raised middle finger emoticon. Naturally, I promptly lowered my rating to 1 star and blocked him. Claudio's unwelcoming, shameful behavior clouded my opinion of Chiusi, where I would definitely not return under any circumstances.
