Woolpack Inn

We stayed for evening meal, bed and breakfast and it was absolutly perfect. The service from every member of staff was first class. The room was comfortable and so very clean. Finally the food, well, what can I say. It was spot on, served hot and so flavoursome

We stayed in this in for a night as we were going to a wedding near by. The lady who booked my room said to ring before I leave to see if she could get our room ready a little earlier so we could get ready for the wedding in our room. When we arrived we asked if our room would be ready and were told we could go straight up, which we were very pleased about. Our room was lovely and big, lots of space, a sofa and chair, wardrobes containing everything we would need. A coffee machine, kettle with tea and coffee. You had toiletries in the bathroom, which was very spacious. We had a bath and shower. Everything was clean and tidy, it has shutters instead of heavy curtains. I had to let the lady know that the tap was wobbly in the bathroom, because if you had the hot water on it could have tipped forward and you could have caught your hand under hot water. I let the lady know when we checked out and she said she would get maintenance onto it. Our bed was soft and comfortable, one soft pillow and one hard pillow each. We were asked what time we would like breakfast, so I suppose not everyone arrives at once. There was plenty of choice, hit drinks, juice, toast and croissants, then a hot cooked breakfast or another choice from the menu. It was all good, all served quickly and the room we ate in was very charming. This is a very old in , so it’s is a bit wonky in place, but that adds to its character. Doors are quite small, so if you are tall mind your head walking through. We definitely had a good time and would recommend this inn to anyone staying in Chilham or near by.

We have been going to the Woolpack for over 40 years. It is a firm favourite. We last visited in 2020, during Covid, when the previous owner had ripped the heart out of the place and it was dirty and run down. We saw there had been new owners and chanced it today - we checked it out today. The in. Is back on form - enthusiastic and proud ( rightly) owner who not only sold the place, but also another five inns which her family own and run. I am sure we will, try them all out but we are looking forward to Christmas shopping in Canterbury and staying at the Woolpack. And in response to an earlier post, we found the staff helpful and attentive and had no problem with the variety of beers on offer!

My wife and I were visiting Chilham for the day and popped in for a quick drink on a weekday lunchtime, a mistake we won’t be making again. After discussing between ourselves what we were going to drink we were interrupted by the charmless pub bore who told us unprompted that the pub wasn’t interested in giving customers much of a choice on draught beers other than lager because: “everybody drinks Guinness” (as he was of course!) We were eventually served by a disinterested member of the bar staff who seemingly couldn’t even be cheered by the fact she was charging us £15 for two pints of lager and a packet of crisps. Can hardly wait to go back!!!!

We stayed in the room called Chapel Down during a heatwave weekend. We felt the lack of air-conditioning in our room and the cupboard - which contained a fridge - got very warm. We slept well (all things considered). The shower was good and easy to use. The different breakfasts were all good with the pastry element being the weakest link. Our server was personable and helpful. We ate in the bar one night and the restaurant the next (same menu). The meals were excellent and both of our servers were attentive and friendly. We would certainly stay again.

I had a wonderful stay at The Woolpack. The Taittinger Suite was beautiful, with a stand alone bath that made the whole experience feel extra special. The room had a great mix of character and comfort, and the village setting was peaceful and charming. A perfect little countryside getaway.
