We came here for dinner by chance after a day out and we're glad we did! The food was delicious and the staff were so friendly and attentive it made for a perfect end to the day. The cream brulee was amazing, just a shame it was a special and not a permanent menu item! We look forward to coming back again the next time we're in the area.

A great country pub, well managed by Jemima and her team. Good service, food, friendly staff, pleasant surroundings and good beers! Well worth a visit. For me, 5-star!! I will definitely be going back soon, with friends and even solo. It's just what I look for in a Countty pub...

Absolutely gorgeous food and such friendly staff. Warm and cozy with the fire going. Absolutely worth the visit, especially on a lazy afternoon or on the way back from the beach as we did! Very accommodating to our little one and nothing was too much for them.

First EVER bad experience at The Royal Oak - we are local and it is our favourite pub. Many meals on the menu unavailable, no specials, chips barely cooked, food presentation underwhelming, poor waitress service (cutlery just plonked in a pile on the table), staff walking through pub with armfuls of frozen chips, even the ‘Happy New Year’ on the chalkboard was ungrammatical! What’s happened? SO disappointing.

Arrived slightly early and our table wasn’t ready, not a problem, patiently waited. Sat and given our menu’s. After about fifteen minutes the chap that arrived to take our order, advised what wasn’t available, not ideal. Staters ok, crab cakes more potato than crab. Roasts arrived. Good portions wide a variety of vegetables some very very crisp, each of us got a varying amount of Brussels sprouts. Overall disappointing and not very hot. Puddings ok but nothing extraordinary to be honest. Did we complain, no the staff seemed rushed off their feet with very little co ordination by who ever was in charge.

Been let down 3 times now by the pub and we are locals - just a two minute walk away! First time the excuse was no chef, the second time it was no fish and chips (! What pub doesn't have this??) and the third time - not enough food ! We've been going here for 40 plus years - such a disappointment.

Not the greatest experience. High expectations as we have not visited this gastropub for a few years. and after pre ordering we still had high expectations. However, and may be this was down to the pub loosing its chef recently, but the food was very average, nothing really tasty, and obviously prepared before hand, and we could not make any changes as there was no chef! Would have been nice to know before hand though so perhaps we could have made some alternative plans? However the service was attentive and polite. Need to up its game before we return..

The cottage accommodation is not recommended. Very expensive for what it offers. In need of a refurbishment. The check-in/ welcome was strange. you arrive at a pub. The cottages are on the other side of the lane, and you feel like an unwanted spare part and ignored by the staff in the pub. The quality of food served at the pub is poor. The steaks are rubbish quality and badly, overcooked. The dinner service as the guest accommodation welcome is poor. The whole experience from first impression to handing back the key was poor. The staff don't care. The manager clearly needs to change and the staff retained in how hospitality is supposed to work. I can't recommend a stay at The Royal Oak.

The Royal Oak used to be a great pub, with great food and service. Unfortunately the pub really has gone downhill. We had one course dinner that took 2 hours. Our food didn’t arrive until after we had been in the pub for over 1 hour. The steaks were a disgrace, Hanger steaks, what a shame for the Royal Oak to be serving such cheap cuts of meat. Surely most guests would prefer to pay a little more for a Ribeye or Fillet. They were very tough, chewy and also totally burnt on the outside, so not only was the texture hard to eat but they tasted bitter and burnt. The service lacked care, no leadership, seemed like summer jobs, no real interest in the guests experience. Will not be coming back.
