My friend and I had booked ourselves a spa day (Simply soothing spa day @ £64ea, the cost of which had risen from the website advertised price of £54 overnight) plus massage treatments @ £70 and £75ea as we were both in need of some TLC. Whilst the massage treatments were very good, the rest of the experience was not in the least relaxing. Upon arrival and whilst we were being shown around we were informed that the outside sauna was out of action and the outdoor hot tub not available. These are listed as included in the cost of the day so we were not best pleased and asked to speak to someone about this; the staff member showing us around was very dismissive and not at all apologetic. I'm afraid things went from bad to worse. The facilities can at best be described as very tired: it's not very reassuring to hear club members complaining relentlessly in the changing rooms - hairdryers not working, black mould in the showers, paint peeling from ceiling extractor fans above the showers, cleaning equipment (mop & bucket) on constant display, damaged locker doors, faulty locker access panels (we would not have been able to get into our lockers without the assistance of a club member)... a litany of woes. In addition we observed that the hazardous chemicals store which is sited within the changing rooms was wide open in direct contravention of COSHH regulations and seriously compromising the health & safety of visitors to the club. Throughout our time there (around 4hrs) we experienced 3 or 4 power cuts, 2 of which occurred during the massage treatment resulting in emergency light only and once power was restored, the spa music did not resume. I'd like to say this didn't matter as I don't mind silence during a massage but sadly loud chatter could be heard from the neighbouring room and corridor, again not exactly conducive to relaxation! Lunch was OK, limited choice but what we had passable although the only beverage included is tap water which seems a little stingy. The environment is more canteen than restaurant but the staff were delightful. Before leaving we asked to speak to the manager and after around a 10 minute wait in our robes in the hotel reception area, Hayley came to speak to us. We intended to provide honest and constructive feedback but disappointingly the reaction was highly defensive verging on aggressive and this only served to reinforce our unfavourable view. We were actually reproached for not having reported the hazardous chemicals store sooner! I guess they don't have procedures for checking themselves that their hazardous chemicals are kept under lock & key if they have to rely on fee paying visitors on their hard earned day off to bring this to their attention.... Power cuts are apparently common in that area and just a fact of life that they regularly have to put up with (they have a generator but there is an inevitable lag in the restoration of power) - we were gobsmacked to say the least. No apology was offered and we wer
