A two night stay to see if Albemarle Estate would be a good getaway from the madness of the DC Beltway area. We booked the cabin to ensure quiet and privacy. It hit on those points, but the rusticity was a bit too much. Upon entry, the air was on the musty side, as if it had been closed up and not aired out (which the staff assured us was not the case). Dead bees in the floor vents should have been vacuumed out. We understand that being in the woods adds certain challenges for housekeeping, but at $850/night, those challenges should be met. On the plus side, the fireplace absolutely rocked. We were moved to one of the pool house rooms (Taylor) for the second night. Things went much better there. Yes, as one of the reviewers noted, you do not have personal control of the HVAC setting, but have to call to have the temperature adjusted. The floor in the room above us squeaked from time to time, but no big deal. What we missed in the second room was the great fireplace the cabin had. We inquired and learned that a handful of rooms in the main house have fireplaces, though they are gas rather than wood. We'll be back to try one of those rooms. Overall, the property is pretty gorgeous, and the staff are great. We're hoping the third room is the charm.
