Mill End Hotel

Living relatively locally we had an evening meal at The Mill End Hotel a long time ago - probably 2010. We came away unimpressed at that time and haven’t been back. Until now that is! The hotel has had new owners since that time, changing ownership twice. The difference now is exceptional. This is an officially rated 4* hotel offering a 5* plus service level and overall experience. Alex and the Mill End team have built on their immediate predecessors hard work and taken it even further. Our one night stay was outstanding and this time we shall most certainly be back. The attention to detail, the well appointed and very clean room and the acknowledgement of our anniversary made our stay very special. Our afternoon tea, our evening meal and our breakfast (spoilt for choice) were wonderful. It was the staff however who added that extra wow. Each member of staff going out of their way to make us feel so well looked after - nothing was too much trouble. Our congratulations to you all. Some minor comments, not criticisms, and meant to be constructive and of help: * The dressing table in our junior suite (the lovely “Dart”) could do with a stool, the nearby armchair a little low to use with the dressing table. * Electric vehicle charging points in the car park would be a useful addition. * A bit more attention to landscaping would improve the exterior. Please don’t take the above as negatives, just a guest’s suggestions as to how to improve further on what is already a first class hotel in a lovely location. Very highly recommended.

This was our 2nd stay at Mill End and it was as good as the first . Excellent service by all the welcoming , friendly staff , everyone of them gave great service . The food was fantastic , the extra little touches like a canapé and amuse bouche before the meal made even more special . The chef and his staff do an amazing job. Would definitely recommend and will stay again.

Our second visit to this excellent hotel and it is still a beautiful location and superbly run. The rooms are large and very clean and comfortable. The staff ate always friendly and attentive and the food is superb and great value. We had our 3 year old cocker spaniel with us and he was catered for in terms of lovely Devon walks and his own special provided treats.

Wonderfull hotel and rooms. Very friendly service and the food was delicious. The garden is also beautiful. The rooms are perfect decorated and the bathroom was really big. We loved the quality of the cosmeticproducts. We stayed only one night, that was definitely too short. We can absolute recommend it.

Excellent stay at the Mill End Hotel. We had dinner and breakfast included. The dinner in particular was superb with a surprise 'amuse bouche' to make the occasion feel special. The lamb main was delicious and one of the best meals I have had this year. The hotel very much lived up to its 2 AA rosette awards. The feel of the hotel is very comfortable, hospitable and unpretentious and the surrounding area is beautiful and well worth a long hike to walk off a generous breakfast. The staff throughout were delightful and helpful. We would love to return.

We had the best short break I think we have ever had! Mill End Hotel is in a delightful setting. Welcoming and helpful Staff, to really comfortable rooms, from delicious breakfasts to well deserved two rosette evening 'yummy' dishes... before we left we had booked again for another 3 nights this Autumn. Thoroughly recommend a stay here, beautiful walks and scenery.

Delightful place to stop. lovely ground floor room; superb breakfasts and amazing dinners. The staff go the extra mile to make your stay perfect. I can't complement the head chef enough . It ticked all my boxes. Will definitely return *****.

Monday 13th May 2024, My husband and I drove down to Devon. We drove into the village of Sandy Park, just outside Chagford, to go to ‘The Mill End’ Hotel, where we were booked in for four night’s dinner, bed and breakfast two hours later than we intended too due to the terrible rainy conditions on the way down, plus a detour due to an accident of the A350. We arrived at ‘The Mill End’ Hotel around 6.30pm. We were greeted by a very nice lady called Julia and was given a very warm welcome; we were staying in the ‘Bovey Room’. The ‘Bovey’ Room was situated on the first floor; all the rooms in the hotel were named after various rivers which flow through Devon. We were then shown to the ‘Bovey Room’. It was a large double room with a separate dressing area and a walk in shower room. There was a small sitting area with a chair and table. There was a beverage area with a kettle, bottled still water, a selection of drinks which included fruit teas, tea, and coffee and hot chocolate and complimentary shortbread cookie biscuits and lovely artwork on the walls. The furnishings were of a cream design in keeping with the ‘chic décor’ of the building. The bedroom was large and the décor was done out in a light creamy paintwork with cream furniture. We had a large ‘French Chic’ Bed in cream with white cotton sheets and duvet and a ‘Tabby Cat’ fur bed coverlet with gold brocade cushions and matching curtains at the window which overlooked the garden at the front of the hotel. We had a separate tiled en-suite bathroom that had a walk in shower and had lovely hot water, soft fluffy towels, complimentary ‘Temple Spa’ toiletries and white slippers. It was completely done out in soft beige and white with silver ‘Modern’ style bathroom fittings and a huge mirror. My husband and I unpacked and settled in. We then dressed for dinner. We then went downstairs downstairs into ‘The Lounge’ for pre-dinner drinks. My husband and I both had a Devon Mist cider with ice. Julia brought us the menus for us to peruse along with a dish of complimentary ‘sesame’ biscuits. The menu was full of interesting dishes for the diner to indulge in, all of the dishes I found wonderful, so it was quite hard to choose just one dish! Julia came to take our food and wine order, and she said she would come and take us into the restaurant when our food was ready for us. It was nice to sit and have a drink before dinner in lovely sumptuous surroundings. A little while later my husband and I were escorted into ‘The Mill End Restaurant’ at eight for dinner. The restaurant was lovely, light and airy and we were seated at a nice table for two. The table had lovely silver cutlery and bright shiny glassware and a lighted candle, which gave a romantic feel to our meal. A lovely waiter called Baxter waited on us all evening. Baxter had a really nice personality and nothing was too much for him and he was very professional in all that he did for us. My husband for his starter had cauliflower soup

Beautiful area even in the rain. Rooms very comfortable and clean. A nice selection of complimentary toiletries left for guests use in the bathroom. Food was superb and they catered for my vegan diet very well. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a quiet get away.
