My experience working at The Valley as a cleaner, unfortunately, fell short of expectations. While the setting is beautiful and Alex, the owner, was always pleasant and approachable, the overall working environment was let down by poor management. In particular, my experience with the general manager, Katurah, was disappointing. Although the role is self-employed and you are expected to arrive with prior cleaning experience, which I have, Katurah made it very clear that she holds extremely high standards. However, at no point was I shown how to meet these standards, nor was I given any form of guidance or direction. Despite being a trained and capable cleaner, I was still scrutinised against expectations I was never made aware of, which made it incredibly difficult to succeed. Most concerning of all, I overheard Keturah speaking negatively about me to another member of staff, using very vulgar language. This was not only unprofessional but also deeply disheartening, especially considering no issues had been raised with me directly. Unless you’re comfortable working under a manager who speaks ill of their staff and provides little to no support in reaching the standards they demand, I would not recommend taking a cleaning role at The Valley. While the location and ownership may be lovely, the day to day management creates a difficult and uncomfortable working environment.
