Barefoot Cay Resort

This is our second time staying at Barefoot Cay, and we’re already planning to come back! It’s the perfect place to stay, dive, and dine in Roatan. We love that it’s never overcrowded—you almost feel like you have the entire Cay to yourself! It’s close to some of the best dive sites, and the food is fantastic! The only thing is, I wish they had more options for children on the menu.

Speaking strictly as a diving hotel, this one is above the standard. The food is pretty good and the cottages are nice. There isn’t much of a beach, but the small beach that they do have seems to be full of trash so it was kind of difficult to enjoy it. This is not an all-inclusive resort. We had the full board option, which was kind of limited. The menu is small and gets redundant if you stay there for next extended period. If you don’t go within a specified eating times, they will charge you for the food. The food and drinks are not cheap. I had a sandwich and it didn’t even come with fries. The diving was just OK. Almost all of our dives were within five minutes of the hotel so we didn’t see much. All the dives were pretty much the same I wish we would’ve gone to the other side of the island for more variety. Nitrox was not available which was fine because the process to get Nitrox was cumbersome. Divemasters were just OK, not very friendly. I probably would’ve tipped more if it were not for the nitrox issues and their characters. The whole experience was just OK for me. I probably won’t be back. I think there are cheaper options on the island.
