Fully renovated in Sept. of 2020, the large 1200sf space is fresh, upscale, and very Marin. The light-filled great room has soaring 20' ft. ceilings and walls of windows looking out onto woodlands. The cottage is located in a quiet, private 2-acre property walking distance to town and convenient to both San Francisco and wine country.The Musician's Cottage is nestled in our peaceful, historic family property along with our Victorian main house and another cottage. The grounds are landscaped beautifully with wild woodlands behind. The cottage has access to a lovely green front lawn and a private back deck. Hummingbirds and butterflies flit about, deer are frequent visitors, and we even get the occasional fox. As you enter the cottage you feel the freshness of a full, high-quality renovation. There is a new kitchen, a dining area flooded by light from double french doors, an incredible great room with double-height ceilings and a small loft for reading or stashing an extra guest. Enormous windows surround the great room on three sides and look onto old sculptural oaks; you'll feel like you are in a treehouse. The bedroom wing features a quiet master bedroom with woodland views, a large, luxurious new bathroom, and a twin bedroom. The renovation was done by an award-winning San Francisco designer, and all furnishings, fixtures and finishes are stylish and of the highest quality. And another plus: There is so much outdoor space to enjoy! A private back deck, a small front patio, and the large common lawn and gardens in front. Breathe deep, enjoy!The property is entirely private, with no traffic noise and surrounded by nature. But here's the kicker: It's only 1 minute from a main thoroughfare of Marin County, Sir Francis Drake. This means every convenience is close by: grocery stores, restaurants, etc. The charming small town of Kentfield is walking distance away (about 7 min down a steep hill) with a fantastic deli/ gourmet store and two restaurants. Best of all, we are in central Marin, the best part of one of the safest and most beautiful counties in the land. Marin is world-renowned for its year-round fantastic mild weather and its hiking, biking, and kayaking. Sunny central Marin, in particular, is free of the chilly fog that plaques southern Marin (Mill Valley, Sausalito, Stinson Beach) and San Francisco. Central Marin, moreover, is located about halfway between San Francisco and wine country, making it convenient to both. It's no wonder that so many Marinites call this place Paradise!This is the perfect place to bring your pooch along on vacation! The property has a central common lawn for the doggos to play, and is a gated compound at the dead end of a road so very little traffic (except us). Rosie the resident mini-bernadoodle is a wonderful hostess and always up for playtime! Pet policy: 1 dog 50 lb and older than 1 year welcome in the cottage. No cats. Dog must be cleaned up after scrupulously. Dogs with behavior issues like chewing or excessive barking are not allowed. If dog’s paws are dirty wash and dry them at the “Dog Paw Washing Station” next to the lawn (towels in grey bin) before entering the cottage. If more than just their paws are dirty please give them a bath before re-entering. Use provided couch and bed covers. $50 nonrefundable pet fee.NOTE: Your unit comes with two assigned parking spots, on the tight side. They are large enough for 2 standard-size cars (compact to midsized), one full sized car and one compact, or one large or oversized vehicle. What a special place this is! Sit on the patio, sip tea and look out over a hillside of peaceful woodlands. Wake up to the callof our resident redtail hawk, and go to sleep to the sound of our local owls. See the occasional deer walking the paths below you. Walk through blooming gardens filled with hummingbirds and butterflies to get to and from your car. Have a picnic on the front lawn. What a perfect retreat.The Garden Apartment is on the ground floor of our family home, a Victorian dating back to 1903. The house sits on a beautifully landscaped 2-acre gated family compound with two other cottages and a central lawn which everyone is welcome to use. It's a truly unique property. And the location is just incredible. We are in Kentfield, one of a string of small towns (we call it a "string of pearls") in upscale Central Marin, an area world-known for its yearlong mild weather, hiking and nature, great restaurants and proximity to both San Francisco and wine country. This is a great launching spot to explore the SF Bay Area.The apartment itself is lovely, comfortable, and quite large at 800 sf plus patio. It is a terrific value considering the grounds and the location. It has been recently renovated, and has a fresh new feel. The entry steps are entirely rebuilt, with great lighting and handrails. There is an in-unit washer/ dryer, a 50' HD flatscreen TV, a beautiful new dining set, and head-to-toe redesign including new light fixtures, window treatments, bed linens, throw pillows and more. It all feels very fresh and stylish. The one thing that hasn’t been redone is the original kitchen, whose retro vibe we love. It retains its’ funky handmade oak cabinets, blue tile counters and spanish tile floors. (I swear I grew up in that kitchen!) The apartment comfortably sleeps 3, with an enclosed bedroom and a twin bed/ daybed in a nook off the living room. Both of the beds are exceptionally high quality and comfortable, as are the linens and pillows; We take our sleep quality seriously here! The main bedroom features a premium latex bed and the twin bed nook a new Puffy memory foam mattress. The unit comes with a small patio, a private entrance and one parking space. It is quiet, serene, and ridiculously safe, with woodland views from every window. THINGS TO NOTE: This is a ground floor unit in a family home, so guests should expect there to be some upstairs noise: footsteps, voices, barking, etc. Most of our guests are entirely fine with the noise level, but very noise-sensitive folks might not find this unit comfortable.PET POLICY:We love dogs and welcome them to this pet-friendly property! Here are the rules:1 well-behaved dog 50 lb or less allowed in the unit. No dogs younger than 1 year. $50 nonrefundable pet fee/ pet. Blue Sky Cottage is one-of-a-kind. It is a lovely, serene cottage on a magical property in an incredible location. The cottage is large at 800 SF, and is freshly renovated head-to-toe. The great room, with peaked ceilings, windows all around and skylights, is airy and filled with light. It is serene with soft blue walls and yummy colors, and opens onto a large deck. It has Roku TV with hundreds of channels for streaming, plus books and games. The cottage has its own dedicated network, and Wi-Fi speed is lightning-fast, 782 Mbps, sufficient for high-quality streaming on many devices at once. The kitchen is fully stocked with quality cookware and dishes and has everything you need to cook wonderful meals. Morning coffee is covered with a full coffee station, with Keurig, French press, electric kettle and all the fixings. A mini-split heating and AC system ensure your year-round comfort. The bathroom is newly renovated and just gorgeous, with a double-vanity and a tub enclosure lined with deep blue tile. The bedroom boasts a beautiful queen-sized solid acacia bed with premium Sealy Posturepedic mattress. It has large windows and lovely light, with shades. There is a very comfortable American Leather queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Linens and pillows are good quality throughout. We take sleep quality seriously here! Designed by the owner, an artist, the cottage sings with color - from the sky blue exterior to the sunshine yellow front door to the lively kitchen tiles. Overall the cottage is fresh, chic, peaceful with a cheerful vibe. What makes this cottage special is not just the cottage itself, but the setting. The cottage is nestled in a very private 2-acre gated property filled with gardens, woodlands and redwood groves - a magical oasis! Most guests are quite astonished when they arrive at this property. The property features an historic Victorian main house (where the hosts live) and two rental cottages, grouped around a common lawn and gardens. The lawn is available for all to use - perfect for picnics, little ones or play with your puppy. Behind the house and cottages are wild woodlands, and wildlife spottings are common: red-tailed hawks, owls, foxes, raccoons, hummingbirds, deer, the occasional coyote all make the rounds here.The property is in a prime location, central to everything - the perfect base for exploring the Bay Area. It is in sunny Central Marin, clear of the fog belts of Mill Valley or Sausalito. San Francisco is 30 min to the south, wine country is 45 min to the north, and all of beautiful Marin surrounds you. She fancies herself a guard dog so she sometimes barks at new people (sorry!), but don't worry, this is just to alert us and she warms up quickly.
