Come relax on the spacious front porch and enjoy the long range mountain views while listening to the soothing sounds of the river below. Step back in time while enjoying all the modern creature comforts. We took down this 125+ year old hand hewn cabin several years ago and have been anxious to be able to recreate what you see here in the Cedar Cliff Cabin! This perfect getaway sits on a 65 acre private estate located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. The setting makes you feel like you are in the back country yet you are minutes from everything this area has to offer. We are only 1 mile from I 40 exit 24 and 25 miles to downtown Asheville and the Biltmore estate. You only need to make a mere 10 minute drive to enjoy all that downtown Waynesville has to offer from fine dining to some of the areas best local breweries. This property takes shape after a lifetime of finding old barns and log cabins that were destined to be torn down or even left to rot away. Through the years we have carefully dismantled these structures and saved every usable item we could to try to create something special to us..... and hopefully special to our guests as well. From the antique hewn logs to the reclaimed locust porch posts, rails, and decking this is a uniquely different log cabin that you will have a hard time finding anything comparable. Step inside and feel the antique solid oak hand scraped barn wood flooring under your feet. Enjoy the warm feel of the solid poplar barn wood walls and ceilings mixed with just enough Spanish style stucco to brighten each space you enter. Enter the master bath to the spacious open shower with natural stone walls and stone mosaic flooring. Look above to see the exposed locust rafters and reclaimed beams in the vaulted ceiling. You will more than likely spend most of your time here on the front porch relaxing to the long range mountain views. Watch closely for the huge cranes, hawks, and the occasional bald eagles that patrol the river. With the close proximity to the river you will most likely see some type of wildlife during your stay, there are coyotes, turkeys, groundhogs, deer, bear, squirrels, etc. This property is home to more than 50 head of cattle so no pets are allowed at any time during your stay here. Also no smoking in the house but it is fine to smoke outside on the porch. Please put discarded cigarettes in the containers provided as this property is in a wooded area with lots of dry leaves. We hope that your visit to the mountains of western North Carolina and stay in our cabin create memories that will stay with you forever. Please respect the cabin and treat it as if it were your own as we respect you as a customer. With four unique private cabins now on the property, Riverbend Cabin (listing number 7843149), Paradise at the Rivers Edge (listing number 1148597), CastAway Cabin (listing number 3156188), and now Cedar Cliff Cabin please check out our feedback ratings on the other properties and feel free to message about renting multiple cabins for your family getaway. Come relax in this luxurious new log cabin just completed in December 2022. CastAway Cabin is unlike any other properties in the area and is situated at the end of the road on a private 65 acre estate located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains This very private getaway is just 25 minutes from Asheville and the Biltmore Estate and 10 minutes from downtown Waynesville. CastAway Cabin is along the elegant/rustic flavor. Just minutes away from Cataloochee snow skiing as well as hiking and fishing. The lawn just in front of the cabin gently slopes to the river just steps from the front porch.CastAway Cabin is located 1 mile from I-40 exit 24 and 25 minutes from downtown Asheville. Take a mere 10 minute drive and enjoy all that downtown Waynesville or Maggie Valley has to offer from fine dining to some of the best breweries in the area. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs all along this area and the cabin is just minutes away from several of its entrances. CastAway Cabin is constructed from mostly reclaimed materials. After a lifetime of tearing down old barns and cabins it was time to put some of the reclaimed wood to good use. The oak logs were all reclaimed from standing dead timber right here on the property. The ceilings throughout the cabin are made from reclaimed beetle kill ash trees harvested just across the river. The flooring is made from 100+ year old reclaimed heart pine. All of the trim work in the cabin is reclaimed barn wood salvaged from local barns that we have dismantled through the years.Fishing in this area is a big attraction so bring your fishing poles and get lost in the beauty of the western North Carolina mountains. Take a short stroll down the front lawn and be fishing within minutes of your arrival or set up a guided float trip or fly fishing excursion with some of our highly recommended local guides. The cabin offers one bedroom with a king size bed and pillow top mattress. The bathroom is well equipped with full sized front load washer and dryer as well as a beautiful travertine shower. The kitchen has most everything for your cooking needs. The cozy living room has a beautiful natural native stone fireplace with gas logs. The TVs in both the living room and the bedroom are internet TVs so you can watch all your favorite shows on Netflix …etc.Stroll out to the cabana and fire up the grill and enjoy the sound of the river passing by. You will more than likely see some kind of wildlife during your stay from the deer, bear, turkeys, squirrels, hawks and the bald eagles that patrol the river. CastAway Cabin is truly a one of a kind getaway and is a working farm as well. The property is home to a cattle herd and our daughters horse Rosie that all frequent the field just in front of the cabin. With four unique private log homes available on the property now…Riverbend Cabin (listing number 7843149), Paradise Cabin (listing number 1148597), and Cedar Cliff Cabin (listing number 2232038) and now CastAway Cabin please message us to reserve multiple cabins for your family getaway. Whether it’s relaxation, a trip to downtown Asheville or Waynesville, fishing, hiking or just a peaceful stay on a beautiful bend of the river that you are looking for then this is the place for your vacation! Please refer to our other cabin listing Paradise at the Rivers Edge! to see our reviews. Just completed in May 2019 this cabin, like our Paradise Cabin, is unlike any cabin you will see anywhere. This perfect getaway sits on a 65 acre private estate located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. The setting makes you feel like you are in the backcountry or out west yet you are just minutes away from downtown Asheville or Waynesville and everything this area has to offer. We are only 1 mile from I-40 Exit 24 and 25 miles to downtown Asheville and The Biltmore Estate. You only need to make a mere 10 minute drive to enjoy all that Downtown Waynesville has to offer from fine dining to some of the areas best local breweries. The Blue Ridge Parkway cuts right through this area and you are just minutes away from several of its entrances. After more than 20 years of dismantling old barns and log cabins and hoarding away the kinds of things you can’t just run out to the local building supply and buy, this unique property started to take shape. From the hand hewn solid oak log walls to the tobacco stick handrails this is a one of a kind getaway. All the woodwork and trim in the cabin is reclaimed from barns that were built 100 plus years ago by the owners great grandfather and has been transformed into what you will see in this truly unique property! All the flooring is salvaged from blizzard grade locust trees from the surrounding high mountains and made into a beautiful plank floor. Whether you want to bring the family or have just a private romantic getaway for your honeymoon/anniversary, this is a cabin unlike any other you will find. Fishing this area is a big attraction so bring your fishing poles and get lost in the beauty of the western North Carolina mountains. Walk out the front door and down to the river and be fishing within minutes of your arrival. The cabin offers a master suite with a handcrafted locust king size bed with pillow top mattress on the main level with a private bathroom and large tile shower. The upstairs bedroom has a queen size bed with pillow top mattress and it’s own bathroom. The loft area is well equipped with a full size sofa pullout sleeper overlooking the living area. There is also a queen size sleeper sofa in the living area. The kitchen has most everything for your cooking needs.. The living area is equipped with a large flat screen television and a fireplace/entertainment center. Both bedrooms also have flat screen as well. The cabin has Direct Now internet television as well as WiFi. With one bedroom and bathroom upstairs and one bedroom and bathroom downstairs it is a perfect spot for two couples to have plenty of privacy. Open up the huge glass doors and let the lullaby of the river coming around the bend echo through the cabin. Don’t forget the front porch where you will want to spend most of your time taking in the view and listening to the soothing sounds of nature. Watch closely for the huge cranes, hawks, geese, ducks and bald eagles that patrol the river. With the cabin being on the rivers edge you will most likely see some type of wildlife during your stay, there are coyotes, turkeys, deer, bear, squirrels, etc. Don’t be surprised to wake up to the cattle walking by just outside in the morning. With the long range Mountain View driveway leading to the cabin and the waterfront location this is a truly one of a kind property. This cabin is home to more than fifty head of cattle so pets are not allowed at any time during your stay here. Also smoking is not allowed in the house but the porch and outside areas are allowed. Please discard cigarettes responsibly as there are dry leaves in heavily wooded areas surrounding the cabin. With four unique private log cabins available now....Riverbend Cabin (listing number 7843149), Paradise Cabin (listing number 1148597), Cedar Cliff Cabin (listing number 2232038) and Castaway Cabin (listing number 3156188) please don’t hesitate to message us regarding multiple cabin rentals for your family getaway. We hope that your visit to the mountains of Western North Carolina and stay in our cabin creates memories that will last forever. Comfortably situated on 2.5 acres of private mountain land, come to rest, retreat and explore, all while taking in what we think are some of the best views of the majestic Western North Carolina mountains every day!Conveniently located about 15 minutes north of Downtown Waynesville, we are a 4 minute drive away from I-40, giving you easy access to a large number of local attractions and places to visit:13 Minutes to Maggie Valley24 Minutes to Cataloochee Ski Area35 Minutes to Asheville35 Minutes to Cherokee/Harrah’s/Main entrance to The Great Smoky Mountain Park13 Minutes to Lake Junaluska30 Minutes to Historic Downtown Sylva1 Hour to Nantahala Outdoor Center1 Hour and 20 Minutes to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/DollywoodTucked away at the end of a road in the mountains of Waynesville, our cabin’s stunning exterior will be noticed at first glance. Starting at our wrap-around deck to take in the awe-inspiring views, our cabin will check all your boxes.Through the front door, you’re greeted with a wide open living space, comprised of our living room and dining room, designed not only for style, but to allow for maximum comfort. Our living room has a 65 inch flat-screen TV, Roku enabled, ready for every streaming service you can imagine. (We are BYOL - bring your own login) In our cozy coffee table you will find several of our favorite board/table games to play as a group if you choose. The main couch turns into a pull-out, full-sized bed, that is comfortable enough to sleep two adults if needed. Our dining space has a solid-wood dining table with 4 chairs and a bench that can seat 6 people comfortably, allowing you to enjoy that home-cooked meal when desired on vacation.Speaking of home-cooked meals, our kitchen is fully stocked with brand new appliances, pots and pans and all the essentials needed to cook a great meal. (Salt, pepper, oil, can opener, blender, etc.)As people who enjoy a good cup of coffee, we have both a Keurig in addition to a French press, with both K Cups and grounds, as well as tea, cream and sugar. On one side of the cabin we have one of the living quarters, a recently renovated full bath right across from our cozy “Mountain Room”, paying homage to the Blue Ridge Mountains, which has a full closet, memory foam queen bed, a dedicated mini-split AC unit and all the accessories needed for a comfortable stay.On the other side of the cabin you will find our “Forest Room”, with green accents, that is sure to bring a tranquil environment to your stay. Fitted with a memory foam king bed, a dedicated mini-split AC unit, a massive closet, as well as a small desk for those that plan on spending any time working. This room also has a very roomy and comfortable folding queen bed and mattress that we keep stowed in the closet until it's needed for use. It fits comfortably in the room when in use (refer to pictures for reference). This room also has its own fully renovated full bathroom right across the hallway. Also on this side of the house is another exterior entrance, leading to the other side of the deck, as well as a full washer and dryer unit that you are more than welcome to use, allowing you to go home with clean clothes! We provide a couple (2) of Tide Pods for your use per stay. If you wish, you are welcome to bring your own detergent to do a few more loads.Lastly, what we think is the crown jewel of our property, the outside space. Centered around a massive deck, we have 6 comfortable lawn chairs you are welcome to move around to the fire pit, the yard and the deck. Facing North, take in the view at sunrise or sunset overlooking the mountain range right in front of you. We have a brand-new gas grill that you are welcome to use, PLEASE make sure of two things when using the grill:1. Always give the grill a quick clean after use (scrubbing the grates and a quick wipe down is sufficient)2. FOR SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS: Please triple check that the propane is turned off BEFORE putting the grill cover back on.We also have a Corn Hole set as well as a large, wooden Connect 4 game that will bring fun to everyone in your party. There is a fire-pit just to the right (East) of the house, that you are welcome to use. Feel free to bring your own firewood, or collect any around the property that is already on the ground. Please, DO NOT chop down any of the live trees/plants.Guest accessWhile we certainly aren’t quite in the “boonies” as we have a couple of neighbors within approximately 100 yards of our house, this is certainly a more secluded/rural part of town.Given that, access CAN BE, at times, tricky. The last 1/4 mile of the road up to our cabin is a gravel/dirt road that can be challenging, ESPECIALLY during snow/ice/heavy precipitation. While we have personally made it up the hill in both a smaller sedan, and a rental mini-van, we would recommend having a 4WD/AWD vehicle. When we personally use the cabin in the winter time (Dec, Jan, Feb), we will only bring our 4x4 full-size truck. As we mentioned, we are on 2.5 acres of NC mountain, so you are welcome to explore the property at your own risk, however please exercise caution. A lot of our land is located directly beneath the property heading down towards the main road. This is a very steep mountainside that could potentially be dangerous, we advise staying off of that part of the property and ensuring kids do the same.Other things to noteOur home is equipped with high-speed internet, which is for the most part both fast and reliable. However, it can randomly cut out from time to time, I guess part of being in the mountains. Also, while we personally have never seen one, there have been bears spotted in our area. We also get elk, gophers, bobcats and lots of other wildlife, please be mindful of this, and ensure that any trash that is taken to the outside can is locked securely with the lid. Lastly and most importantly, have fun, enjoy your stay, and enjoy the beautiful area of Western North Carolina that we ourselves have come to love.About pets:No pets allowed.About checkOut:Check out before 10:00 AM.About children:Children allowed: ages 0-17.About customRules:- Please only flush toilet paper.- If using grill, please scrub grates and wipe down after use, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, triple check that propane tank nozzle is turned off.About checkIn:Check in after 3:00 PM.About smoking:Smoking is not permitted.About minBookingAge:Minimum age to rent: 21.About events:No events allowed.
