Myself and my husband booked a suite for our 25th wedding anniversary, I am coeliac he has Chrohns disease. I choose this hotel as it had a pool and a gym as well as the menu as my husband doesn't eat Pork/lamb/ or any chicken on the bone. It is also the ONLY time he can get a draught pint as he can't risk a pub in case the men's W.C is occupied. We got there really looking forward to it as its billed as a high end hotel. WELL!!!! When we got there we were told that they had changed the menu THAT day, I am not exaggerating when I say it is SOOOO hard to find a menu both myself and my husband can eat that I wouldn't have booked if I had saw the menu, the manager sent us an email just previous to our arrival but failed to mention that the new menu only had 4 starter/main course and desert courses on it. NONE of which my husband could eat, they did get him a chicken breast the 1st night but it came ON the bone, we were forced to go to other restaurants even though we had booked Dinner/bed/ breakfast. In addition, he ordered papers which only came the 1st day at midday. there was no pool or gym, no draught beet, just overpriced bottle beer. REALLY DISAPPOINTED, as the hotel was in excess of £350 a night with a bottle of house white at £30, I REALLY feel a discount should have definitely been offered, it had NONE of the facilities offered or expected, for the price and it was my 25th anniversary and should have been SOOOO special, I can't tell you how disappointed we were, I didn't want to spoil the trip by moaning asit spoils our trip but am expecting an absolute apology, discount by return post or the VERY least complimentary nights stay. MUST DO BETTER

Our 8th stay in this lovely 14th century hotel, now totally ruined by the new owners, who have even raised the price from £208 (last year) to £300 per night for room 105 (now renumbered 02) that we liked so much for its character & charm. Gone is the antique furniture throughout the hotel, now replaced with modern bland stuff and equally bland carpets and wall decorations. There were no drawers or shelves in our room, so had to use our suitcases for non hanging clothes. Not even a drawer in the bedside table. No full length mirror, nor shaving mirror & socket in the bathroom and no phone (you use your mobile to phone Reception). No tissues in the room and biscuits must be the cheapest around. Can only access UK TV channels via their Apps and, as these have not been signed into by the hotel, even this was not possible. And why only one chair for the two guests? The bath is high and difficult to get in and out of. Reaching the bath taps past the fixed glass screen, is a real stretch and impossible for my wife who had to step into the bath to do it. Lovely towels. Another guest told us that the swimming pool was closed and they were planning on filling it in. My wife had bought her costume...... Dinner menu remained the same for our 3 night stay and is very limited, so difficult not to repeat your choice. It costs £55 and all items are priced, so spend more than this & you pay for it, but spend less and there’s no refund. The food was disappointing, to put it mildly and I didn’t enjoy a single meal. Wines expensive and coffee is extra. Breakfast was good. You might as well stay in a modern hotel, because all the charm of this lovely hotel has gone. It’s bland, boring and very poorly fitted out. Whoever thought that the low bucket seats were suitable for a restaurant is in the wrong job. I wondered why the owners just didn’t buy a modern hotel, instead of spoiling this one.

Afternoon tea for two was superb. Champagne cocktails , tiny sandwiches, including a vegetarian option, savouries, little cakes and scones with jam and clotted cream. Followered by tea or coffee in the newly refurbished Manor house. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the decor in the rooms was modern and tasteful .We had a wonderful afternoon. We have stayed there previously and recommend it for a stay in comfortable bedrooms. Worth 5 stars. Pure luxury. .

We have been to Charingworth Manor for Afternoon Tea on quite a few occasions and always been very impressed by the food and service, today's visit went above and beyond as well as the superb afternoon tea (the scones were so light, the mini savouries were delicious) Jenny who served us was a delight, nothing was too much trouble and she was bubbly and friendly but not intrusive a real asset to Charingworth. We look forward to our next visit.

Several things to take account of - the hotel is undergoing renovations and some parts were closed, other parts temporarily appointed - the bar and restaurant was in the Orangery and the bar barely had enough glasses to serve our group of 7 - especially not matching glasses. The pool was nice, a little small, but not unusually so. Staff seemed very pleasant, and tried to offer a level of service that we expected. The hotel is set in lovely grounds, although the building work takes the shine off - that work is due to be complete by 17 May - fingers crossed for that. The tennis court saw better days about 20 years ago, and the air-con or cooling fans running constantly onto the terrace made conversation nigh impossible in the largest part of the terrance. The breakfast was good and they offered great flexibility to our group. Not the widest choice for the buffet / continental, but adequate. We had dinner which was of great quality and served efficiently; it turned out to be the most expensive meal of our trip by some margin (+20%) once drinks were factored in - almost £600 for 7 meals with three of the cheapest bottles of wine and some drinks. Add on top of that the 10% service charge and it starts to feel very much like there are some pretentious views of their own quality. The rooms we had were at best ‘adequate’. Not much bigger than a standard Premier Inn room, with a tired bathroom needing update and new lighting, and perhaps a mirror at a level that guests of shorter stature have a chance to see themselves and a sink that isn’t at chest height might be nice. The bed creaked like mad, waking me several times a night as i turned over. The creaking floor above also not particularly welcome when the guests upstairs were waking and moving around much earlier than us. Somewhat worrying therefore that other comments and responses indicate that the ‘normal’ rate is much higher, lowered only because of the building works at the moment. Absolutely would not consider paying more than the average £250 per night we paid, and even that feels very much at the high end of acceptable. Would I stay again? Perhaps - a lot might depend on the room rate once the refurb is done, and some confidence that the refurb actually has addressed the issues with the rooms. Finally, something that is really annoying me in several hotels I’ve stayed in in the past year - the introduction of a 10% ‘discretionary’ service charge added to the whole bill - including accommodation. I understand that the charge is distributed as ‘tips’ to all staff, I understand that it is discretionary and I accept that it was clear in the post-booking email from the hotel that explains that such a charge will be levied. We asked for it to be removed and it was, without any question or issue. I would like to understand why hotel management think it is ok to load prices like this - a sort of guilt-trip stealth tax that changes the stay price well after the choice has been made afte

The team made our extended family so welcome and nothing was too much trouble to celebrate our son’s 21 st birthday. The staff were so friendly, such a beautiful setting, lovely dinner, comfortable rooms and we loved the pool. Thank you so much.

We were part of a small classic car group staying for four nights DB+B. We couldn't have been better looked after! Our room was clean and tidy and very nice, but the shower cubicle was a bit on the small side for me! Dinner every day was excellent with a different menu every day. Breakfast was always large enough for my big appetite and beautifully freshly cooked. All the staff were friendly and couldn't have been better. Thanks to you all.

Went here on special deal and found out it was a very special place too! Firstly the views and area surrounding the hotel are just awesome (not a word I use often) and it isnt far from lots of lovely towns in the Cotswolds. We had a DBB deal and the dinner was fantastic top quality food served by really friendly staff - who all seemed to enjoy their work. Breakfast had great choice and the hot food cooked to order was top notch too. Room was very good and we had a ground floor one with a small garden with table and chairs - and a hot-tub! All the staff we met were so nice and helpful too. Overall it was a lovely relaxing stay and we will be back!

On arrival we had mixed feelings. Beautiful countryside surrounds the manor, and then we saw the tennis court. Oh dear! Not a great first impression. The net was on the floor and it all looked rather scruffy and dirty. The hotel is having work done to update, so unfortunately half of the hotel was blocked off. I hope they resolve issues found when the update occurs. In the bathroom the tiles were lifting off the floor, and there was no hand soap. The toiletries provided are quite an embarrassment and need to be rethought especially for the price of the rooms. The beds were very soft and not that comfortable. There was no smart tv and we struggled to get our fire stick to work with the hotel WiFi which is very slow. . The room was acceptable but just tired and much in need of the makeover it will hopefully receive very soon. The bar was very limited in the orangery, and the furnishing again needs an update. On the positive side, the views are to die for and the food is superb. (Breakfast not as good as evening meal). Unfortunately, one of the waiting staff on our stay was not the friendliest which made us feel on edge, so that needs to be addressed also. The pool was lovely and clean, but because of limited space no loungers are available and poolside seating is extremely limited. There are no jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. The hotel just feels like bits are missing. Wouldn’t recommend.
