The pros: 1. Food (all vegetarian) was delicious, creative, and ample, and helped me avoid the blood sugar ups and downs I’m accustomed to with my regular diet. Teas were delicious and a nice way to start the day. No desserts, FYI! 2. Loved the gym (and the morning circuit class) and the hikes. 3. Treatments (massages, etc.) were lovely. 4. Mattress and pillows were comfortable (but see below re temperature issues). 5. Staff were lovely! 6. Loved the farm and the animals. The cons: 1. I was in a double room, arranged such that the air conditioner was blowing directly on my friend’s bed (so she was cold sleeping) and not at all on my bed (so I slept hot). In the middle of the night, I removed the comforter from the sheets so that I had a chance of sleeping. I did not sleep well at all throughout my stay. 2. We were told not to not flush toilet paper, perhaps due to a septic field problem (we were pretty sure we smelled some septic odors outside one day), and a permanent enough situation that signs have been placed in all private and public bathrooms. The little trash cans everywhere smelled like urine, and I was in a public restroom one morning when the housekeeping staff was cleaning the restroom, and it was pretty unpleasant. 3. The meals were served on an odd schedule for me (maybe it was fine for others). All times were somewhat approximate — if lunch is “at 1:30,” sometimes we weren’t served until 2:00. Same with dinner. There is nothing other than fruit between meals. We were very hungry the first day, and then realized we needed to eat a lot at meals! Advice: if you need smaller meals during the day, bring some snacks to keep in your room — problem solved! Be aware of the septic issues.
