Rowan Brae Historic Guesthouse

We had a most comfortable and relaxing stay at Rowan Brae. The thoughtful furnishings added a touch of charm. Helpful and easy-going staff made us feel calm. Our room was clean, warm and cosy. It overlooked the garden - it was rosy. In the kitchen there were always options for a snack. We liked it so much - we'll certainly be back. Malcolm and Sue

This is a nice old house with a lovely garden and wrap-around verandahs extending around most rooms. But it is difficult to feel like a guest when there is no host on site - only other visitors. (Room keys are accessed through coded lock boxes.) This wouldn’t be so much a problem, except when breakfast supplies in the small kitchenette are depleted by 7am, there is no prospect of them being replenished quickly. I imagine that ‘guests’ would normally eat their self-serve continental breakfast at a table on the verandah overlooking the lovely garden; however in winter with the temperature close to freezing, the only option is to sit on your bed. There is no indoor dining space.

It’s an excellent location, an easy 10min walk into town. Beautiful old mountains home but very comfortable and clean. Great having breakfast options too. We’d definitely come back.

Rowan Brae is an historic house with all the period features and furnishing with modern twists (USB power points, modern bathrooms etc.) We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing stay, and our host was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are tastefully furnished and the personal touches made the stay perfect. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens where visitors can relax or make use of the croquet provided. Breakfast is provided on a self-serve basis. There was an incredible feast available from cereals, toast and juices to eggs and ham and cheese muffins. Plenty of extras such as cakes, Danishes, fruit and a range of teas and coffees. The rooms on the front face the Great Western Highway so there is some traffic noise during busy times. However, the house is completely screened from the road by beautiful trees and hedgerows. Easy walking to restaurants and cafes and a short drive to amazing views of the Megalong and Grose Valleys. Definitely recommended for a mini break.

It would be nice to have comfortable chairs outside.

Great place to stay, cosy room with a lovely view of the gardens. Room was very comfortable with great heating and a very comfy bed. Coffe/tea making was well stocked. Located close to the centre of town making it an easy walking. We will definitely be back.
