Pensión Plaza Nueva

The hotel is very basic. The bed was comfortable and the shower, etc. worked, but the rooms (apparently all identical but for the colour scheme) are fairly small and lacking a number of basic amenities (e.g. a kettle). Fine for spending a night, but not recommended for more than one night. Beware that the hotel does not have an on-site reception. We were able to access the building and room with access codes without problems thanks to prior communication with the hotel via email, but this may cause issues for some. We did, however, need to contact the hotel shortly after check-in, outside of business hours, and the sign in the room gave one number that it said was not in service outside of business hours and another emergency number that would incur exorbitant fees if used (from memory, €5/minute). This resulted in us having to spend twenty minutes creatively attempting to contact the hotel via our third-party booking website, with limited success. The location is phenomenal, right on the Plaza Nueva. You have excellent bars/restaurants and a lively atmosphere right at the front door. All three stars are for the location.

The pension is right above the bars of the plaza so it has great location. The entrance is at one of the corners. The room is spacious and clean. Every door is managed by code for it is also on the modern side. Loved it, no complaints definitely recommend.

Lovely modern room, fantastic value. And the location is incredible, the front door opens straight into the beautiful Plaza, full of relaxed bars serving amazing pintxos. Check-in etc was all totally hassle free, would recommend to anybody planning a trip to Bilbao!

Estancia excelente, muy recomendable. Es una pensión pequeña donde cada habitación tiene un nombre de color. Yo estuve en la habitación Azul que creo es la más pequeña. Lo más destacado con diferencia para mí, algo básico pero muy dificil de encontrar, es el colchón y la almohada. Cumplen perfectamente con lo que dicen, son de muy buena calidad y super cómodos! Por lo demás, todo muy nuevo, la limpieza también muy bien. Localización perfecta, en la misma Plaza Nueva. Es verdad que se escucha algo de ruido de las terrazas de fuera, pero nada exagerado. Ofrecen una nespresso para que te puedas hacer tu propio café sin coste adicional. Hay calefacción y aire acondicionado, también caja fuerte y un muy buen secador. Hubiese agradecido que en el check-in te recomienden sitios para desayunar.

Teniamos una reserva por 4 noches, con 2 vuelos de conexion viajando desde el extranjero. Por un asunto de la huelga de la compañia Vueling no hemos podido llegar a Bilbao. Hemos pedido a la Pension que nos mantuviera la reserva para otra fecha que podamos viajar, y nos han contestado que ni devuelven el dinero ni guardan la reserva para mas adelante. El hotel que teniamos en Barcelona, ha comprendido la situacion que hemos sufrido y nos guarda la reserva para el mes de enero. Que intransigente se puede llegar a ser y que poco comprensivos.
