I always read bad reviews about a hotel first- usually I can tell if it was one disgruntled traveler, vs. a real issue with the hotel. Unfortunately, a friend of a friend had liked it here, so I did not do my usual due diligence past the first several reviews which were all positive. First the positives: Fun concept, with each room having its own funky art theme. The location is great, walking distance from most museums, Reichstad, trains station, etc. The staff we dealt with was lovely, although first telling me where the stairs are when we are obviously an older couple with large suitcases…I assumed we were just up the 6 stairs he showed me, not up three flights after that! Luckily I only did that when we could not figure out how to get the door to unbolted so we could close it, and the front desk person kindly helped. Now, the negatives: No air conditioning-This would have not been awful if the hotel was not right next to train tracks which are constantly active. (When we arrived, they told us they were upgrading us to a better room so that we were not “right next to the train tracks,” but instead facing the courtyard. I can only imagine how much worse that would have been, especially with having to keep the windows open!) Added to that, there is a lovely garden, but if people are in it talking, the sound carries as though they were next to you. Right now, someone is watching a video in the garden, and laughing loudly and we have a very early taxi. And of course the windows have no screens. It felt one step away from a youth hostel. The shower was tiny, so my husband who is 6’3” felt like he could barely move in it. When they cleaned the room, we had left the one tiny bar of soap in the shower on the water controls, (There was nowhere in the shower to put anything) and whomever cleaned got rid of it but did not replace it. I would not stay here again, and only recommend it to someone who wanted a fun place to stay and did not care about the constant train noise.
