Beautiful pub, full of character. Fabulous service, beautiful food and lovely atmosphere, what more could you ask for! We had the scampi and pork belly nibbles followed by beef short rib and beef and ale pie, delicious!! Very reasonably priced.

This great pub offered a superb meal for everyone. The food was high-quality and delicious. The service was attentive, friendly and warm. The venue is old and fascinating. There was a good selection of larger and beers and beers on the pump. This is the best meal I have had this year. We all Highly recommend it.

Well what can I say. We have never had a meal as good as we have had here. We’ve been to restaurants where a main has cost over £200. And I can honestly say that I’ve never experienced service or food as good as we have had here. The beef shorten was a different experience , sausage and mash and chicken curry was also delicious. The staff, venue and ambience is second to none. Definitely worth a visit. And thank you to all the staff for being absolutely incredible.

We are fortunate enough to live within walking distance of this hotel, restaurant and pub. We have just returned from yet another meal and, as always, the staff, the food, the drink and the welcome was superb. The cheese souffle draws us back repeatedly! The village is lovely, with plenty of walking from the hotel including up to Dartmoor itself or simply sit in the lovely garden with a drink.

Our second visit, this time in Spring, was equally wonderful. The location, on the edge of Dartmoor, is spectacular- enjoyed particularly from the inn garden. The room is beautiful and the bed majestic and incredibly comfortable. As ever, the food is incredible. The best feature however, is the staff - who couldn’t be lovelier and more engaging.

VE day celabrations & the place was buzzing. Lovely atmosphere. The room had a 4 poster which was very comfortable and a good view of Cosden Hill reminding me of the climb awaiting in the morning. The meal was superb and the service attentive. The staff well attired in WW2 uniforms was a great touch.

We had a lovely meal on our way home from Cornwall at The Oxenham Arms. The menu was interesting and we each ended up ordering something different. My friends had a beef short rib with truffle mash, and a salmon dish with samphire and gnocci. I had the beef rendang curry which was very flavourful (although would have been even better if it came with a salad or some greens of some kind). The waitress was really friendly and helpful regarding gluten free options on the menu, and I also had a gluten free beer. The traditional dining area was lovely. Would definitley return.

This place has been on my list to vist for ages and I wasn't dissapointed on arriving. The village itself is quaint and quintessential Devon, the Pub is easy to find and on going inside I recieved a warm welcome right away. The host found me a table in the bar to eat and was happy for me to have a look around to take photos. I had specifically visited to see the ancient Menhir, which the monks incorporated into their later building. There is also a Roman Pillar support in another room. The place really is a delight, with so much history both to see and learn about . Back in the bar I had a nice pint of jail ale and a pie. The food was delicious, well presented and good value. I will definately be back to this hidden gem, it would be amazing to stay here for a night or two, especially as there's lots to see and do in the superb, surrounding area. Thankyou to all the staff for making a lone traveller feel so at home and welcome. I will return!!!

This was our fourth visit and it was as perfect as ever. Our bedroom was beautifully decorated and had the most comfortable four-poster bed you could wish for. The bath towels are exceptionally large and soft. There are many walks and places of interest to visit from here. The hosts, Simon and Lyn, are so welcoming and pay great attention to every detail to ensure a perfect stay. The staff are excellent too. John, Graham and Ellie who served us in the restaurant, were hard-working as well as having great personalities. Vicky and Sue kept everywhere spotlessly clean. The chefs, Geoff and Dean, are outstanding and so creative. I enjoyed a delicious salmon pave with gnocchi and smoked mussels so much, which is quite an achievement as I dislike gnocchi and mussels, that I had it again another evening! 😀 We are always happy to tip the well-deserving staff here but are very glad that an automatic service charge is not applied as it sadly is in many establishments now. We look forward to our fifth visit.
