Another inspiration visit to Bodhanath -- staying at Hotel Lotus Gems. All we have said in the past still pertains -- but we would like to add that on this occasion, we were accommodated in using a private room for our Nyingma Vajrayana ceremony and teaching. We also had use of the ground floor dinning room to entertain Lama guests. This was extremely important to us between when entertaining Lamas in public restaurants -- the noise level means that only the closest to us can hear what is being said. We would recommend this hotel as conformable and within easy walking distant of the Great Chörten (stupa).

Love this place! Best place to stay in Kathmandu! Very comfortable and clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful! The restaurant on the roof top is also a great place to see the Boudha Stupa lit up at night. Always look forward to staying here.

Fabulous ******* hotel! We shall return in November 2014 . The staff is friendly and helpful and the room are a delight. The beds are comfortable and there is an excellent choice of breakfast options.

We had to wait 3 years to stay at this hotel which we first visited back then for a cup of coffee and fell in love with its look, location and ambiance. It more than lived up to our expectations when we finally got back this year, and were able to stay. We had room 301 which is up at the level of a roof terrace, with fascinating views across Kathmandu and the locality directly round the hotel. The room and bathroom were clean, well equipped and comfortable. The decor of the hotel itself is stunning, echoing the monastery next door. Each day's breakfast was excellent, offering a variety of hot and cold foods. But what really makes this hotel even more delightful is the friendliness, welcome, and efficiency of the staff who are unfailingly polite and helpful, and never miss greeting you when you go out, or come back. Being so near Boudhanath Stupa, the hotel is an excellent base from which to explore the whole Boudha area which offers a fascinating mix of traditional and modern shops and businesses, as well as a number of monasteries which are well worth visiting. On a very practical level, but extraordinarily useful, there is a clothes line on the roof of the hotel where you can hang any washing to dry.

Calm hotel with great rooftop-terrace. Clean rooms, friendly staff. Walking-distance to Boudanath. The food is very good! My minus is: Reception called me at 8h to let me know, there was a breakfast-room, serving breakfast. I though that was really weird. I had never asked for a wakeup-call and obviously I knew about breakfast (which serves until 9:30h). I mean, it’s a three-star-hotel. Let people sleep, if they want. If I want to get up early, I’ll set my alarm. If I don’t turn up for breakfast at 8h, it means, I’m not having breakfast at 8h. Where will I be most probably? Right - in bed, sleeping. Really annoyed me. Sleep is holy, when traveling. Also, there’s no “do not disturb”-sign. So basically the hotel decides at what times you can get a rest. So, my advice: Tell reception actively to not wake you up, if you need some sleep.

Here for several weeks and I must say.. I wish I was staying even longer! The staff are among the best I have had the pleasure of meeting. The hotel itself is aesthetically pleasing and clean as a whistle! I enjoyed waking to the sounds of the monks next door practicing as part of an authentic travel experience. The food is excellent and the view from the rooftop cafe as though you were hovering in the sky alongside the stupa. Heat, hot water, wi-if. It’s all here. What a beautiful, peaceful, joyful place. I hope to return soon.
